Old timer returns with questions....

Ok, I purchased the WWII fighters pack for FS2004 and many others that were made for FS2004, in fact, all of them. I have updated the views for most of them but I do not know what I need to do to update besides the views in the cockpit to make them FSX compatible. I fly the P-51 most of the time and around the dials by the mounting screws you can see scenery passing by and other places in the cockpit. Also, I thought that the P51 cockpit opens with the handler on the left side. Is that true ?

How do I update all the German aircraft I purchased for FS2004 ?

Hi Jib01

First install the WWII fighters disc, just point it to FSX instead of FS9, don't edit anything yet.
Next install the 1.2 patch http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtop ... =25&t=6280
Then in any order

And your good to go.
No FSX upgrade for the Zero unfortunately but it works just fine in FSX as long as you don't enable DX10 preview mode.

what Wop files does it look for and does it have to be in the FSX objects directory to work ? Remember I do not have the Wop II just the Wop original FS2004 release...

I have "Wings of Power II WWII Fighters Special Edition" that was originally released for FS2004.

Don't worry, the 1.2 update will ask you what version you have and put the files in the right place for you.

Do you mean the WWII Fighters pack that was on CD and came in a box, or simply WWII fighters for 2004 in general, like the P-51D/H pack and the Fw190 pack, that were sold as digital downloads?

My copy of WWII Fighters: Special Edition also had an option to install the planes to FSX. That was released when FSX was new though, and the subsequent FSX service packs messed up the original WWII Fighters graphics.

http://flyawaysimulation.com/article1677.html
Farmington, CT USA June 2nd, 2006 - Shockwave Productions Inc. has announced their latest offering, Wings of Power II: WWII Fighters Special Edition, has gone gold (entered final production). Shockwave's newest boxed set is compatible with both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

If your copy also has the FSX install option, choose that. Next, download and install the FSX updates for the Spitfire, Bf109, Mustang and Thunderbolt.

If, however, you mean the very first P-51 pack that included the P-51H, you'll have to manually port over all the components from FS2004. There will be graphic corruptions like floating screws and holes in the cockpit. There was a temporary fix that was offered for the Wings of Power II model before the recent FSX overhaul, and as I recall it worked with the original model. I still have my P-51H model in my FSX library so I'll take a quick look and see if I ever got the cockpit anomolies fixed...

Jib,

I still have FS2009 installed on my computer and I just tested the original P-51D from the P-51D/H pack. The window crank is not clickable in the VC, but it is animated if you open the canopy with Shift+E keys.

I only ported over the P-51H model to FSX since my WWII Fighters Special Edition CD already provided me the Wings of Power II P-51D model. I just checked, and my P-51H has the transparent screws in the cockpit as well as other graphic problems. The FSX patch, which corrects these anomolies in the Wings of Power II P-51D, can't be applied to the FS2004 P-51D/H models.

The newer Wings of Power II Mustang (installed into FSX) has the clickable window crank. I have the FSX patch installed, and that fixed all the cockpit glitches.

I don't know how to port over the German planes but I'd imagine the process is similar to porting over the P-47D/M/N pack which at one time I did have in FSX. For more about moving over the Thunderbolt, see these threads:

I am flying the P-51 in FSX. I have changed the viewing system to comply with FSX. Even in the 3D cockpit mode with the different views the controls do not work. Also, I get the goofy text box with square black blocks instead of text. What is that problem ? Is it related to the graphics card setup or the model/textures ?

I have revamped the cockpit with clickable instrument popups and added simpler navigation stuff to fly by. It works fine for me except for the see thru nuts and bolts on the intrument panels.

I hope I can clean up the graphics to the WOPII level to be used in FSX like normal. I've got every aircraft that Shockwave made but don't fly them all.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you apply the FSX update patch for the WoPII P-51D? It fixes the screws and placards, among other things.

Hello Jib,

there is no work needed on your part to get them flying as native aircraft in FSX. The mustang was made fully FSX thanks to the FSX patch, as was the WOPII P47, 109 and Spitfire.

thanks,

Hi jib01
Sorry about the confusion, I assumed you were referring to the WoP2 pack as you posted in this forum, it is titled "WWII FIGHTERS
Five "Ace" aircraft in a box" after all :)

I don't think there's anything else you can do that you haven't already done, I don't know for sure though as I don't have the old FS9 planes
