Landing light key binding issue

Post by LukeFF »

When using the default "Landing Light On/Off" commands in 24, it only switches one of the lights on and off.

Hmm. I learned something new, then. I guess I was confused by the configuration app listing both of them as landing lights.

I stand corrected.. they ARE left/right "landing lights"... separate switches even. I was confused - because of separate switches - with other arrangements I've flown.. and what separated those, was how they were aimed. Plus, I have then configured on a Logitech Switch panel.. using landing/taxi switches..

For binding (I use Spad.next)..

LVAR:LANDINGLIGHTRIGHTSWITCH
LVAR:LANDINGLIGHTLEFTSWITCH

0=OFF 1=ON

Thanks! To be fair, in your defense, the cockpit only labels the left-hand switch as a landing light.

I use AAO but only when the corresponding command doesn't exist in MSFS or with the configuration app. I found that the default taxi light on/off switches do work with the right-hand switch.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there are Comanches out there, where one of them is the taxi light. I’ve seen airplanes where the difference between a taxi/landing light, is not only the aforementioned aim, but intensity and lens/focus. When aftermarket LED lights are installed; any combination might have been opted for.

For me, IRL.. (and I’m sure I’ll be scolded).. either/both are for my vision, on the ground at night, and for the airplanes’ visibility to others, in flight. I’ve never flown light GA where a landing light meaningfully helped me see the runway, on short final.

By advice, a taxi light might be OK, on the ground, whereas a landing light might distract/blind other taxiing aircraft ala strobes..

When I fly tomorrow (in sim), I’ll see if the two lights on the A2A Comanche, differ at all in aim/beam/intensity..

The Comanche doesn't have a taxi light, just the two landing lights which are intended for use on the runway. If you need to use them on the ground to find your way around, do what you need to do :)

They are quite clearly labeled on the panel though, as:

LANDING LIGHTS
LEFT...........RIGHT

I'd perhaps just consider them "taxi/landing lights" .

That said, I note the A2A Comanche comes with LED arrays. In real life, I find LEDs curious in that they are very annoyingly bright when having to look at them from receiving end, while perhaps not that effective in actually illuminating things when viewing from behind, considering the lumens thrown.

This effect has to do with their rather narrow spectral output, usually more or less at rather cool (in color temperature) daylight or beyond white.
