Here's a quote I picked up during meetings of the Department of Ecology:
"Indecision is the key to flexibility."

Here's one that I actually put to use while working at that agency:
"There's always opportunity in confusion."

Ummm...I don't really like to bring out my crabby-old-Wilkinson persona, but I'm failing to see the humor in a joke about an American citizen that was essentially murdered by police...ufr...

He wasn't murdered. You're thing of the other guy. George Floyd.

Sorry about that, you're clearly right. Rodney King was only severely beaten by police...still not particularly funny for this old guy...

I was trying to think of the last year a joke about police brutality might be considered funny, and googled Rodney King to get a possible year. When I saw the "People also ask... What was Rodney King's famous quote" well, there was only one answer.

Ron's original quote has all the necessary earmarks to be funny. The sudden shift in perception that makes this kind of joke funny comes as late and as suddenly as possible. Technically, it's funny. But for us, the subject is not. In fact, given what we know, it's a bit offensive.

So I was trying to phrase my reply and did a bit of research. When I read "What was Rodney King's famous quote?" I just lost it. I should probably apologize for my gallows humor, but I won't. At least Ron understood. :)

My favorite Christmas carol list includes,
Little Drummer Boy by the LAPD choir, featuring guest soloist Rodney King.

I may publish the entire list. I'm sure there's something there to offend everyone. :D

I have learned, because of my wife's sense of humour(or lack thereof) that explaining a joke is a non starter. If someone gets it, great. If someone doesn't get it, hey ho. Do a Robert the Bruce.

(Hm. "humour" is marked as a spelling error. :D )

I was less explaining a joke as chronicling how the joke came to be. My first reaction was more-or-less the same as Rob's. I didn't really want to post that. My actual reply was posted the next day.

Besides, your wife has an excellent sense of humor! Look who she married! :D

My wife has mostly gotten used to my sense of humor in 51 years of marriage. When she was pregnant with our son, she said, "All I want is a little boy JUST like his father." Well, he not only looks like me, but he also has my sense of humor. Be careful what you wish for.

Comedy can lose it's humor depending on the situation.

I used to love Dilbert until I found myself in a Dilbert situation. Then is was decidedly not funny and I haven't been able to read Dilbert in the last 25 years.

The American dictionary is lagging...humourously, that's how the word is spelled in the UK and Canada...

"Do you speak English?" "Yes, and I understand American."

America and the UK: two countries separated by a common language.
