Cursed Flight

Post by Thatoneguy4h »

Hello everyone,

I purchased the Strat about two months ago, and I have absolutely loved flying this aircraft. I found a historic timetable for Northwest Airlines and have been completing historic routes to build time in my captain's log. Everything was going well until I attempted the Seattle to Anchorage route on my way to Tokyo. Using Active Sky 16, I have now tried this flight four times, and each time I encountered emergencies that forced me to divert back to Seattle.

On my first attempt, during the climb out of Seattle, I flew into severe clear air turbulence, which injured some of my passengers, requiring me to return to Seattle.

On my second attempt, while cruising, one of my passengers fell extremely ill, and I had to divert back to Seattle for cabin cleaning.

During my third attempt, I lost the number 2 engine while on the takeoff roll, forcing me to abort the takeoff.

This morning, my fourth attempt started off well. I climbed to 30,000 feet to avoid inclement weather below and settled into a nice, fast cruise. However, I stepped away for just 5 minutes to grab a quick snack, and when I returned, I discovered that I had flown into a thunderstorm, which injured passengers and forced yet another diversion back to Seattle.

Has anyone else experienced such a streak of bad luck on this route? I plan to attempt a fifth flight and will let you know if I finally make it to Anchorage safely and without incident!

I predict that on flight number 5 you will lose cabin pressure and be forced to descend to 10,000 feet and get to worry that you won't have enough fuel to complete the trip! :D This happened to me on a flight from San Francisco to Honolulu in the Stratocruiser. But this is why we fly A2A rather than some generic airliner.

I'd really like to try the flight you describe, but the 377 won't work outside FSX or possibly P3Dv2. I have the second installed, but not the first. The Constellation, which works in P3Dv4, just isn't the same.

Next time, get Heidi (whoever serves that role in your house) to deliver your snack, or pack a lunch before you start the flight. Or, you know, pause the flight, but I don't do that either. :D

Thanks for posting this. I really miss people posting about their adventures flying the various aircraft.

Well, how about it, Thatoneguy4h? Did the flight go well? Were you able to continue on to Tokyo? Please post and let us know how things are going!

Turn off failures? I find them more annoying than interesting, I'm busy enough flying all 4 cockpit seats.

Sorry for the late response, sometimes life has a rather funny way of getting busy all at once.

I am very happy to report that on the fifth attempt we made a very successful flight to Stevens Anchorage international. It was a beautiful flight and I even made a smooth landing that impressed the crew! However, I had the mechanics check the engines and the number 2 engine is starting to show a significant amount of wear. I’m deciding whether to attempt the last leg to Tokyo and baby that engine or ferry the plane back to Seattle for an overhaul.

YES! :D :D And THIS is why we fly A2A and do not turn off failures. :D

Best of luck, and please do keep us up to date on your flights.
