Racing 2023

Post by Lewis - A2A »

Anyone following any racing this season, Ive been following F1 as normal but dipping more and more into some IMSA, WEC and endurance racing. Also with Sky F1 having Indy was able to watch a bunch of that this season too.

I do enjoy F1 but I like the IMSA racing more. The GTD class is my favorite, just like I enjoy high school and college football more than pro football.

I like road courses much more than oval track racing, I wish they televised rally racing here in the U.S. because it's insane yet fun to watch.

F1 is the top dog but the only reason I watch it is to see someone other than Max or Lewis win. Don't get me wrong, they are amazing drivers but I like to see some other team and drivers win instead of being fillers. Then again it was fun to see Perez win this year even though one was a team give away.
Take care, Brett

Ah nice yer Ive been watching more IMSA the past few years, esp as its free to watch live from the IMSA website for the UK + has awesome comms from the radio leman types.

If you like the GT but in multi-class have you seen the Nords 24hour race in which the GT3's are the top class?

Its so much fun to follow, more cars due to the size of the track and such a mass of classes + a whole history to get into too.

cheers,
Lewis

Motorcycle racing I think?

I dont follow it myself as an adult but as a kid I grew up around race tracks with bikes as we had family that would race/track day. Lots of fun memories as a kid wondering around the paddocks of club meetings and around the tracks. Its surprising how many UK tracks had kid stuff in the woods, like BMX tracks and tarzen ropes

I would like to but it is not shown here in the US unless you pay for a streaming service. I catch them when I can on the tube because I enjoy them, wouldn't call myself a fan though. I'm more of a fan of skill and precision in any sport, hope that makes sense.
Take care, Brett

Singapore F1. Probably the best last half dozen laps of the season. Poor George, absolutely gutted. What a clever race by Sainz. 😍

Sainz channelling his Prost was stunning to see. Winning using his head in a fashion rarely seen in F1 these days, very special to see.

I wonder how many more successes he would have had if the pit wall had listened to him

I have really been enjoying the F1 season this year. I am impressed with Max's performance this year though it has been good to see McLaren get back in the fray a bit. Had bit more hope for Alonso earlier in the year. Sainz put on a strategy master class this past weekend at Singapore. The thing I really like about F1 is even when you have a runaway winner the mid pack battles through the season can be exciting as well where each manufacturer has an interest in being one rung higher in the standings. Racing simulation is my second hobby aside from flight simulations.

It used to be my only sim but I got to the point where I counted being on the same lap as the winner as a success! Time to sell my racing setup. Frex pedals and throttles, a real Mountney wheel on the 720 degree (I think it was a Logitech) oh the pain. I asked a friend 'what's the best flight sim? FSX he said. and the money set course in a different direction

Correct, Jonathan Rea have been racing in WSB/SBK with Kawasaki Racing Team since 2015 and together they have won 6 consecutive world championships, the last one in 2020. The Kawasaki haven’t really been competitive for the last few years, so change was a bit expected. He will be joining Yamaha next year.
I used to race in the Danish and Scandinavian 250 Production Championship, so I mostly follow motorcycle racing. Since Valentino Rossi retired from MotoGP, I haven’t really followed that series.
Kind Regards
Tomas

Ah neat, I spent my youth attending BSB races and around Mallory, Brands, Cadwell, Donnington etc. Though I grew up and got into 4 wheeled racing those tracks still hold a special place for me beyond being highly regarded as british classics. Tracks like Oulton the UK's mini Nords are such fun to race around.
