P40 - controlling gear

Post by Cary1 »

Have downloaded the P-40 freebie (thank you) and cannot get the gear up using my Microsoft forcefeed back joystick or the 'G' key with FSX. Maybe this is answered elsewhere, but I could not find it.

Welcome to the forum and the world of Accu-Sim
The P-40 have a rather different hydraulic system compared to other WWII era aircraft. Have a look in the WOP 3_P-40_Manual and the Accu-Sim manual( both came with the download) to learn how to operate the gear and flaps on the P-40. You'll need an extra button to operate the hydraulic pump
Enjoy! :)
Kind Regards
Tomas

Cannot open the needed files - they are both WinZip commercially zipped, I do no have a purchased WinZip installer or unzipper. So I cannot read the needed materials.

I was able to open the file with the P-40 manual. But, for Gear up control I get 1+10 and for Gear down control 1+11.
What on earth does that mean?
The same for: engine energize = 1+1 and engine engage = 1+ 0
These numbers are meaningless absent any context.

Not too sure what text you're looking at Cary1, but when operating the gear in the P-40, the key thing to remember is that you must run the hydraulic pump to extend or retract the gear.

Scott describes the system in some detail in this video from the 3:53 mark.

The button to operate the hydraulic pump is located on the joystick and can be assigned to a hardware control using the P-40 input configurator. You can also choose an automatic hydraulic pump option using the Shift 3 menu if you wish to make operation of the gear and flaps a little easier, albeit less realistic.

Thanks,

ok. the video clarifies everything. BTW, I was quoting directly the manual that downloaded. Which gave those 1+10 and 1+11 directions.
Maybe the video answers many questions. Is there a reference for loading the entire video - I presume it runs through most of the information on the cockpit for handling the aircraft?
BTW - my father was at Kunming in the 1940s with Claire Chennault and the FTs. Engineering officer, not pilot.
Many thanks for the patience and assistance.
