I also remember when the TV would not work taking the back off and looking for the tube that was not lit.
And tube testers in stores. :D

Yes, tube testers in the store. Also, if I remember correctly and that's been too many decades ago, radios with tubes made a humming sound?? My grandpa had a 1949 Pontiac Chief "fastback" with a straight eight engine. I believe it had a radio in it that also hummed. It took awhile for tubes to warm up??

Also "rabbit ears" with tin foil flags on each one & did anyone own their own pocket transistor radio with both AM and FM?? Mine was a Zenith.

How about staying up all night watching the screen after all the stations signed off, waiting for some mysterious image or signal to come through. :-)

On the subject of TVs. Am I alone in getting pissed off with TV reporters, when reporting a riot, ALWAYS say "Rioters are looting shops and carrying away FLAT SCREEN TVs" Can you buy anything else? Cathode ray tube went out soon after Henry VIII died!

They wouldn't be running down the street with a tube TV.

Did they ever figure out why blowing in the slot helped?

I heard of one person who cleaned the contacts to NASA specifications using NASA cleaners and it didn't help. But blowing in the slot did, and you had to do it every time. Whatever it was, it wasn't dust.

Magic. It's all magic.

Sinclair z80, when installing or reading data via K7 tape, basic language or cmd, the problem was to get the balance of the tone and volume of the K 7 Panasonic Rq 2309 Recorder .
