Suggestions or ideas for the next patch to BobII

Post by nearmiss »

I haven't seen a thread about suggestions and ideas for the next patch to the BOB. Maybe I missed something somewhere, or the thread is long gone.

Since I've only been doing the BOB a couple weeks, and not steady currently, I'm not a best suggestor.

It certainly would be nice to be able to go keystroke Ctrl+F1/Shift+F1 back and forth and take a ride so to speak, behind any enemy or friendly as you can in the IL2. Part of the fun is just watching the battles play out.

Sure it's fun to jump in wherever I want to fly and fight, but I also like to just let the AI do it. I make tracks for replay in the IL2 and it's great to help improve player combat fighting skills.

Maybe these suggestions are too much for including in the BOB. I wouldn't know at this point.

Ctrl-I lets you watch from anyones point of view. Just keep on stepping through until you find the object of your affection.

Yes, I like CTRL-I quite a bit. Sometimes it's more fun to sit and watch all the planes swirl about, than to keep up with who's going where, what direction, who's on my six, etc. :)

Another favorite is the "roving cam" (ALT-V). It's especially good for sight-seeing. You control pitch and yaw with the mouse, while adjusting forward/backward momentum with the mouse wheel. You can do this while paused, or you can set your own plane to autopilot with CTRL-A.

ALT-F6 will view any padlocked target also.

With the Controls - Key Edits you can also adjust the mouse wheel zoom sensitvity when using mouse for roving camera. I use ; for increase sensitivity and ' for decrease sensitivity.

That's too cool.

Obviously, I didn't know that.

I'll give this a go over the next few days a bit.

Thanks for the responses

Screenshots are easy

The Ctrl+I was great

I put on my screen capture program PSP and ran a couple missions through the campaign.

I used the Numpad + and - to zoom out and made some great screenshots.

I was looking at the movie from Oleg's BOB and honest to goodness he's gotta have more than graphics to make his new SOW a best. I realize he's a detail freak, which is obvious from the movie. The cockpits are fabulous, but hey...who really needs that? I mean it, if the play isn't immersive, exciting and fun what does a life like cockpit do for you?

The landscapes were typical IL2 looking stuff, and the cliffs of dover look no less real than I've seen anywhere else.

Here are some links if you want to dl the movie. It's a pretty big file.

Anyway, enjoy

Suggestions in terms of reasonably possible tweaks for the next patch:

1) Change Boscombe Down to a fighter station as it was in the battle
2) Change airfield repair rates making it possible for airfields to regain sufficient operability again in realistic timeframes, especially if the predominant damage is runway/ landing field holes.
3) Escort bug for Luftwaffe
4) Add missing hurricane squadrons

Was it?

[EDIT]

Yes, you're right. I thought it was Bomber Command only. I see that Number 56 and 249 Squadrons visited for a time. Never knew that.

If this is not solved ,CAMPAIGN is dead.

Thank you.
Yes I agree, this is the CTD that I am the most worried about. I get no useful data from the crashlog and I have no clue how to proceed to either gather data, workaround, or fix this one. It is not reproducable and rather rare IMHO.

We need to keep track of it as I really have no idea how frequently it is occuring except for the crashlogs I see. It seems to occur in the campaign on 2.04 (and 2.05) after long runs (hours not minutes). I am not even sure that it is a shader issue but that is the "name" I call it (good as any).

This is indeed a very high priority for us.

Can we see more semi-nude ladies on the sides of aircraft, please? 8)

Yeah I think Rowan saw Boscombe Down and because it was solely a Bomber base after later 41, early 42, thought OK it must be bomber command then. Its actually a historically significant fighter command field as the BOBs only VC receipient (Eric James Brindley Nicolson) flew from there with 249 Sqn. The only thing I am still trying to research is what the airfield looked like in 1940, which seems hard to pin down.
