Interesting Vid from 2016. At 9:30 of clip how NOT to land a Mig21, BTW way it was not the female pilot.

It was a little rough but not really all that bad. The 21 is built like a tank and the gear can take a beating (up to a point.) The wing on the 21 is a drag machine and produces it in large numbers. On pitch out off initial you can lose 150kph in the turn to downwind. :-)
The airspeed on final is fairly high to keep the sink rate in the ballpark. Let it slow down just a bit and the sink can get out of hand quickly.

This landing looked like he was just a bit slow over the fence and got the nose up just a bit too much instead of flying it on down to the runway. The gear saved his day .

Pretty sure he ground a few millimeters off the ventral strake too. I think that was more the comment than anything.

I'm pretty sure that's why the Design Bureau spec'd the tail with the strake. At the time, fuel allotments for training was fairly limited and they probably figured the pilots would be making landings just like this one from time to time.

Fascinating stuff, the VC10 copy is awesome though not as redefined in shape as an actual VC10
