Melun Villaroche Airshow

Post by guillaume78150 »

A new classic aircraft airshow in France on the old Melun-Villaroche airfield, former Centre d'Essais en Vol, military french aero testing facility.
German Messerschmitt 262 and Arado 234 were tested here in 1945. Dassault built there the bi-sonic nuclear bomber Mirage IV in the 60s.

Lot of aircraft flew from Duxford.

Grumman Avenger.

And an unusual one, an australian CAC Boomerang.
In 1942, the RAAF had no fighters able to counter the japanese Zero and the UK had no spare capacities. But Australia had already received a lot of trainers North American T6, the CAC factory kept the wings and landing gear, modified the fuselage, added a bigger engine, guns in the wings and that was it.
Incidentally, it was an excellent fighter.

Another Grumman, Wildcat in the US Navy. Ordered by the french in 1939, the order was transfered to the UK. It was flown by the Fleet Air Arm (Martlet).

And the PAF attended the show. Here is one of the Alpha Jet.

Great show, and it was crowded. As it was the first edition, it is good news for the future. Dux in July, Melun in September.

Wonderful images thanks for sharing with the Community, love the rare Boomerang too, often a forgotten fighter in many sadly forgotten battles

thanks,

Fantastic pictures I wish I was there to see that.
It reminds me now with the rainy season in my area I have to purchase a specialty item from a company in France
