BF-109 Question: What is "Nullschuss?"

Post by alias_unknown_2004 »

My first impressions are "Wow." Too many excellent aircraft. I feel like a kid a christmas--not sure what I should play with first, or for how long.

Love the mechanical gunsight animation in the Zero, and the opening side windows in the BF-109...

A quick question about the 109 though: The little button to the left of the fuel gauge reads "nullschuss" when you roll your mouse over it. What does that mean and what does it do?

AU

(oh, and i love the "prop clock" on the 109 too. that there is a handy instrument. :D)

Here's another question...is there a piper in the gunsight? I can't seem to find one? S/F MudMarine

I can't get the gunsights to work either, maybe I should read the manual!

My online translation program says that "nullshuss" translates to "zero-shot"

Mine offline translation dictionary by A.E. Neuman (published by Crayola), says it means "sans footwear."

I've read and re-read the manual, combed over the pit for 12 plus hours of flight time in the 109. I still can't seem to get the piper to work. The manual that was provided doesn't say anything about how to get the gunsight working, if it does. S/F Mud

NULL=naught/zero
My German dictionary with over 280,000 entries has NULL (nothing) for shuss. So you got me, a lot of good four years of German did! S/F MudMarine

Hello,

sborford is right!

"Nullschuss" means "Zero-Shot"

And the word "shuss" doesn't exist in the german language

Greetings

The Gunsight doesn't work in mine either. I can click the switch but it doesn't seem to do anything. The dimmer works, though.

So maybe "nullschuss" is a safety mechanism? The gun arming switches are just to the left of it, though, so a safety switch would seem redundant...

Sorry I but I just have to say Schuss (not shuss) is German and this old German soldier knows it too well.
Schuss (singular) schiessen (plural) and I did get shot at plenty in WW2.
Null is zero.

I dug this up:

http://www.messerschmitt-bf109.de/php-b ... bf109d.php

It lists Y as "Nullschuß-Kontrollknopf" in the key.

Just a wild guess - is there a shot counter in the 109, and if so, could that be a button to reset it?

It means "Zero-firing control button".

So what does that button actually do when I roll the mouse over it and click it? Is it a safety switch? But then so close to the arming switches would seem redundant. Maybe an indicator light slash reset but as McMic suggests?

Could it be for the safeties? Nullschuss may translate directly as "zero-firing", but perhaps more loosely translated it means "NON-firing" or "NOT firing". Since it's so close to the arming switches, maybe it was used to safe the guns once they'd been armed.
Respectfully,

Kurt
