Request Base A2A 172 Chrome Paint Kit

Post by Skyfox »

Hey,

Have an odd request - Can some experienced repainter make a chromed up 172 base repaint kit - I just want the base template to be all chromed up, so I could paint on my spare time. I do not know how to chrome the paint kit, due to time constraints - I am unable to spend lot of time on it.

I will gladly be happy to fly a plain chromed up A2A 172 if possible.

To have it shiny like the p51 would be awesome.

Thanks,

Skyfox

I hate to bump this - but has anyone done this.

I am still in the search for plain Shiny Metallic glossy C172. Is this even possible?

Thanks

It is possible. I got this effect...

with a basic grey paint like this...

which has an Alpha Channel like this...

using this fresnel file. fresnel3.dds (I use this one with my shiny Spitfire)

And that's as far as I have taken it. I have no real interest in making one at the moment but good luck with your project. :)

I made this:

not chrome, but rather bare metal. Make the alpha somewhat darker, and she will be shinier..

Wow bladerunner900 and jcblom

Thank for sharing.

Is it possible if you both could send me your paint kit files / models for this? I now have to figure on how to use fresnel.dds (super cool, I had no idea such thing existed).

Thanks,

Sky

Here's mine. https://www.dropbox.com/s/a6hl4s1c5dc8f ... 72.7z?dl=1

It has no registration as it's purely fictional. It's easy to make. All you do is give it a grey paint scheme, darken the alpha and drop in the fresnel3 file. All done with the A2A C172 paint kit. You can also use an ENV.dds file if you like. This changes the environment that is reflected in the metal. You will find various ones in other aircraft texture folders such as the A2A P51.

Bear in mind that if you apply any design or registration in the main texture, you will need to copy it over into the alpha as almost pure white. This will subdue the chrome effect for the paint.
