Sierra Sue II – North American P-51D-20 44-63675 – WWII Combat Veteran Repaint Release!!

Post by Subwofer2 »

AJLUK has poured himself into yet another exquisite Warbird paint!''

I would personally like to thank all who have had the honor of being stewards of this aircraft. The builders, maintainers, pilots, owners and financers, promoters and restorers. This includes all members of The Wings of the North, who continue to selflessly dedicate their time to keep the memory and stories alive of all who have come before, may we always remember the sacrifices paid for our freedoms.

Flown by Lt. Robert Bohna of the 402nd Fighter Squadron, 1945. E6-D 44-63675 would go onto serve in the Swedish Air Force (47' - 54') re-designated J26 before then serving in the Nicaraguan Air Force's (54'- 60') as GN91, in 61' was retired and placed on outdoor display. Ten years pass before returning to the United States, under civilian ownership, is then registered as N5452V and Race number 19. The goal, an attempt on the world piston-powered, closed course speed record, edging near 500 mph at low altitude. Following extensive modifications/testing and being painted bright red, the project ended. Between 77'-83' a restoration was completed returning the combat veteran to stock mustang configuration while retaining the red-orange and white scheme, receiving her current N1751D registration in 79'. For nearly 30 years the aircraft was flown to air shows around the Midwest painted as Sierra Sue II on the left and her Swedish markings as Gul Kalle on the right. AirCorps Aviation in Bemidji, MN restored Sierra Sue II between 11' - 14', including working World War II era radios and full armor plating among other authentic details. She can still be viewed today as depicted in this extremely accurate repaint by AJL UK.

This repaint package includes two liveries, Factory Fresh - depicting 63675 prior to receiving her markings and Post Restoration, as Sierra Sue II existed in 1945 and today - both sets of textures have been developed for use with FSX through P3Dv5.
