Question about manual

Post by AVI4 »

Hey guys, first time poster here. Got the mustang the other day as I was looking for something different to what I normally fly and I’m loving the learning curve. I have a question about the manual, specifically the section on War Emergency Power. It states as follows.

“ In order to give your engine an extra burst of power should you get into an extremely tight situation, move the throttle full for- ward past the gate stop by the quadrant, breaking the safety wire. The engine will then be opened up to its absolute limit, and will give you about 6” of manifold pressure in excess of the normal full throttle setting of 61” (with mixture control at RUN and prop set for 3000 rpm).”

What is the difference between 6” and 61”, the way it is written here seems to indicate that 6” is greater but I’m not sure if it’s just a typo.

Thanks for any replies.

6” of additional MP on top of the normal 61” MP safe maximum results in 67” MP.
No one would ever use that setting now because after a few hours the engine required heavy maintainence.

Not a typo, just ambiguous phrasing. For "in excess of" read "more than".
