Somebody was asking about power settings for the Mustang on cross countries

Arguably the finest fighter aircraft of World War II.

Somebody was asking about power settings for the Mustang on cross countries

Post by DHenriques_ »

Sorry I missed the post until now but if still of interest;
The general consensus based on my own experience and checking with other 51 operators I know for general cross country would suggest an altitude between 14 and 19k that should do fine. You can use several power settings. One operator I checked with uses 36 inches and 2300RPM and that gives him 67-68 gph fuel flow. It is possible to go back to low blower above the cut in altitude using the settings suggested here and reduce engine wear and gain a bit of range. You should be watching the coolant and oil temps closely if you do this however.
Hope this helps some.
