Different turn performances for left and right hand side turns with steep bank angles in military P-51?

Arguably the finest fighter aircraft of World War II.

I do think you have found a bug or maybe an issue somewhere so I wouldnt worry too much about digging deep into the difference in reality between the two. But maybe worth it for the general thing though as it makes sense for quicker turn one way than the other.

Anyway let me give Scott a ping.

cheers,

Hi everybody,

while looking deeper into the turn subject, I stumbled over some interesting videos I´d like to share here:

1. https://www.facebook.com/quicksilverp51 ... 293874420/
P-51D "Quicksilver" demonstrating it´s right tight turning capability.

2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ozJflRs0-g
A lucky guy enjoying some backseat stick time in TF-51D "Crazy Horse". What I really like about the video is that during the briefing the instructor discusses several manoeuvres in detail and also propeller caused effects on a few of that manoeuvres. Unfortunately, that doesn´t account for tight turns. But still, at 6:44 the coach mentions that the P-51s prop weighs 450 lbs and that during stall manoeuvres gyroscopic effects can force the spinner into the engine cowling. Pretty impressive to me.

3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ir5J9X3txz4
some info on how to calculate turn radii. Cool channel in my opinion.

Also, I came across a video documentary featuring interviews with (one or more) WWII P-51 Pilots. In one story, it was mentioned that the Bf109 didn´t like turns to the right... Unfortunately I have trouble to relocate that video on my playlist.

Merry Christmas & happy landings,

Kai
