Arguably the finest fighter aircraft of World War II.

"Barbara"

Post by jcblom »

There you go, my first attempt at painting this aircraft takes to the skies for its first flight:

Image

a bit of background:
P-51D-10 44-14402, OS-H 'Barbara', was flown by Capt Fred R. Haviland of the 357th FS/355th FG from Steeple Morden in november 1944. He claimed 6 aerial and 6 strafing victories before finishing his tour. 'Barbara' was then passed on to Lt. Sellers Hardee, who claimed a further 4 strafing kills, before making a crash landing with Barbara on 24 february 1945. Unfortunately, Lt Hardee died a few days later from his injuries sustained in the crash. More on Lt.Hardee can be found here.

there is still a bit of work to be done, and another fieldtrip coming up, so don't count on downloading this for at least 10 days, but you know it's coming...

Great to see you join the fray JanKees. What field trips are you doing?

Ps, the aircraft makes me think of a certain southpark episode

I teach geology at Delft University in the Netherlands, and this is our fieldseason. I just came back from three weeks in the French Alps, with 36 B.Sc.students, and next week I'll be touring Germany with an international group of M.Sc.students. It's fun, but it also means 16 hour working days, so no time for any simming or painting. But I'll be back...

Hello Mike and welcome,

Probably best if you drop Jan Kees (jcblom) a private message via the "contact" icon above in case he doesn't catch your post. I believe the uploaded files were lost when Aussiex was hacked, but I suspect he still has copies somewhere.

Thanks,
Nick

It's hosted on AVSIM Library. Go to https://library.avsim.net/index.php
and then paste this into the Quick Search/"Search For" bar:
jk_p-51d_a2a_os-h_barbara.zip

You'll need to have an account to download.

Take note of the author as an author search for Jankees will bring up a million and one (not literal but he did hundreds if not thousands of liveries) of beautiful aircraft from the A2A Fleet and many many others! 8) 8)

cheers,
