Trust me - these freeware addons rock with the 377!

Post by Shousa »

This is a repeat of a post I made 9 months ago on another forum but if you love the A2a 377 please read this!!

You are getting ready to fly a restored 377. First you call for pushback, the pushback dude says he is ready and tells you to release the parking brake...you do so and the pushback goes in the direction and distance you have specifically set by a pop-up. Wouldn't you like this feature?

You are flying at altitude and need to calculate your rate of descent so you aren't too high (needing to take too long to land by doing extra circling to lose height) and you don't of course wish to descend too fast or it will upset everyone. No problem...simply set the autopilot early on....then use a pop-up which will calculate automatically the rate of descent you need to make and show this in real-time with a dial...optionally then press engage and it will adjust your rate of descent by the autopilot. Wouldn't you like this feature?

You are coming in to the airport. It is still some distance away. You need to line up this beast with the runway. A pop-up using satellite tech shows you graphically if you are too far to the left or the right so you can adjust? Wouldn't you like this feature also?

You have landed at a big airport. You have been told how to get to parking but it's complex. Suddenly a car pops up for you to follow. It will take you to the correct parking just told to you. Wouldn't you like this feature?

Well the good news is you can have these features. All freeware and details are below.

I am sure some will not like these and wish not to have these modern options with an old plane but some maybe like me, might. I like to pretend I am flying a restored one ;)

How to configure
================================================================
This shows how to configure the Groundhandling pushback gauge (at 5) for the COTS 377 along with the Descentometer (at 11) and Sals gauges (at 12) (satellite assisted landing system)

Ground handling

using these 2 extra gauges you can estimate easily when you need to descend and from far away begin to line up straight (can also use the 377 autopilot using the descentometer). Both Fs9 Gauges that work in FSX and are damn easy to use..in only 1 test flight plus the pdf below you will "get it".

Sals

Descentometer

I found this explanation - don't be put off by what seems a complex explanation. It is very easy to use once installed.

I got it here but the link no longer works - explains who made it and that it is legit.

For runway line up I use the ils gauge and fly an instrument approach. For descents I use the shift+5 map and it tells you distance to sea level.
