The Azores is an archipelago composed of nine volcanic islands in the North Atlantic Ocean, 870 miles west of Lisbon, 930 miles northwest of Morocco, and 1,200 miles southeast of Newfoundland, Canada.

Given their location, I was pleased to find this piece, which reveals a remarkable WWII history. It's worth a read. https://warfarehistorynetwork.com/2018/ ... ld-war-ii/

I thought you'd like it. It was great, apart from the misidentified "C-46".
