Sunday Feb-27-22 Grand Canyon Scenic route

Post by Shabadoo »

Our journey starts in the beautiful town of Page, Arizona at the Page Municipal Airport in the early morning around 0700 local. After takeoff, look out for the Glen Canyon Dam just off the departure end of runway 33. Standing at 710 feet high, this dam created Lake Powell, one of the largest man made reservoirs in the US. We will follow the Colorado River southwest around the famous Horseshoe Bend, passing the small town of Marble Canyon. Look for the two bridges that cross the river into the town. Continuing down the river, we’ll take a left at the fork and head toward Grand Canyon National Park Airport (KGCN) and stop to get fuel and regroup. After that, we’ll continue southwest toward the Peach Springs VOR (PGS) and then a slight left toward Kingman (KIGM) where we will pick up Interstate 40 and follow that down through the Mojave National Preserve passed Needles (KEED).Once we reach Barstow (KDAG) we’ll head south toward the San Bernardino National Forest and end our trip in Big Bear(L35). This is about a 2 hour trip in the P-40. Plenty of Canyon running, scenic views, historic locations and great scenery.
We'll meet in-sim at 1830z for a wheels up time of 1900z
