March 29 MP Flight - P-40s Over Sardinia

Post by ratty »

Phew! After last week's epic Himalayan adventure, here's something a bit more relaxing: a fighter sweep in P-40s.

In a sweep over Sardinia on 30 July 1943, the 325th Fighter Group forced a superior number of enemy planes into the air and destroyed more than half of them. They were awarded a Distinguished Unit Citation. More importantly, they had a cool checkertail color scheme, available here: https://www.lockonfiles.com/files/file/ ... tail-clan/

We'll take off from Sidi Ahmed Air Base, Tunisia, DTTB (which does NOT appear in Skyvector), and head north over the Mediterranean to the island of Sardinia. This trip is a nice opportunity for formation practice and, for those of us new to the P-40, a chance to get to know her better and pick up some hints and tips from the experten.

The route looks like this:

The route is 370 nautical miles and can be completed with full tanks, no drop tank. The flight ends at Cagliari - Elmas, LIEE.

Meet at: 1800 UTC, Sunday, March 29.

Meet on: The Digital Theme Park server on JoinFS.

Comms: Through A2A community on Discord.

Start from: Sidi Ahmed Air Base, DTTB.

Set date: July 30.

Set local time: 0600.

Set weather: Clear or Fair.

NOTE: Start time has been switched to an earlier start at 1800Z to accommodate time changes.

I'll be there so count me in. :D

Did a three hour 'hop' last night trying to get the feel of her. Starting is still a bit hit and miss but I think I have cracked it.

Still need to get the RPM and manifold pressure just right to get the best performance, though.

I've pointed this out before: I don't fly into the ground, I fly other people into the ground. Besides, I don't think there's anything high enough on this trip to actually hit.
