Elevator trim A2A Spitfire,

Post by JohnCT-4 »

I've got a Saitek control quadrant, where the throttle is moved, the throttle (in the virtual cockpit) is stuck at 100% ,and the control maps to the Elevator trim gauge movement. I've exhausted Logi/Saitek help (they can't help), and the other option seems to be the Spitfire Configurator is somehow creating the issue. I CAN move the throttle in the cockpit with the mouse.
Any suggestions of where to look for a solution gratefully received.

Hello John,

Based on the info you've posted, I think the first question is do you have any axes mapped using the Spitfire's input configurator?

If you're in any doubt, please can you back up and then completely delete the "axisConfig" files (if they're present) in these two folders in the Windows "Documents" directory.

Documents\A2A\FSX\Spitfire\axisConfig.cfg
Documents\A2A\P3D\Spitfire\axisConfig.cfg

Thanks,
Nick

I have run into that problem a couple of times and found running sim connect repaired the problem.
Hope that this helps you out

Thanks Nick & Tug, I'll try those strategies and see how it goes.

Comment: I've never used the Configurator successfully when I first got it, and used the FSX "Controls" tab for all my setting up. The Configurator didn't seem to have enough choices to handle the Saitek Quadrant, which has axes & buttons. Too hard for me. I've looked at FSUIPC, bur again too complex for me.

Below my current Config.cfg file contents. Which looks weird to me. What should that look like?

Hi John,

Thanks for the update. The only thing I note about your axisConfig.cfg entry is that the configurator has been used at some stage to select a different axis. (By default, these would all reference joystick 0.) However, all the axes are disabled, so this should rule out the configurator.

I think it's likely that there's a control conflict somewhere else in your setup though. You mention FSUIPC is your post above. is this installed, and have you made any control bindings at all with it? Alternatively, have you used any Saitek or Logitech software for control bindings?

Cheers,

So I looked at axisConfig.cfg and backed it up (See previous post), and tried FSX again, Throttle still 100%; trim indicator moves with throttle lever.

What's the next step?

Second question, where does SimConnect hide. I can't find that anywhere.

I looked at FSUIPC years ago, but got scared off using it- Id be out of my depth.

I've used Saitek's software to calibrate the Quadrant, but it doesn't work through to the virtual cockpit.

Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate your sharing of expereince.

Hello John,

If FSUIPC definitely isn't active, I'd recommend you look t the Saitek software to check for a control conflict. Is there any chance a trim axis is assigned there?

From memory, the file location of the SimConnect installer will depend on which version of FSX you're running. However, in either case you can try running the standalone version from here: https://a2asimulations.com/public/downl ... onnect.msi.

If the issue still persists, something else you could try is backing up the "Standard.xml" file and then deleting it so that the sim generates a new, default set of control bindings. This file is located in the "C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\Controls" directory.

Thanks,

Thanks Nick,
Checked Trim axis, lined to Joystick buttons & Throttle (Mixture & Pitch) buttons; cleaned out link to footbrakes ??? Ran Simconnect from A2A download. Mixture lever is 0% to 50%, but no control in between; Throttle is 95% to 100%; Prop pitch works 0K 0% to 100%. Recalibrated all three Saitek devices, Throttle Quadrant no longer drives attitude pitch.Compared Standard XML to installed version. Compared StandardXML before an after. Different values for many variables.
Examples: <SimControls.Map>
<Name>Saitek Pro Flight Quadrant{0BD2D680-F2B7-11E2-8005-444553540000}</Name>
<Axis>
<AxName>XAxis</AxName>
<Index>0</Index>
<AxEvent>AXIS_MIXTURE_SET</AxEvent>
<AxScale>127</AxScale>
<AxNull>9</AxNull>
</Axis> compared to <SimControls.Map>
<Name>Flight Throttle Quadrant{4657A4D0-01DA-11EC-8001-444553540000}</Name>
<Axis>
<AxName>XAxis</AxName>
<Index>0</Index>
<AxEvent>AXIS_MIXTURE_SET</AxEvent>
<AxScale>119</AxScale>
<AxNull>8</AxNull>
</Axis> The originaly installed Standard has about twice as many listings.

My big question is where do I find hte vales that make hte Quadrant box work, and where is hte contamination of these values coming from. It looks as if when I try to ditch the bad values they reappear. Any more suggestions

Thanks John
