My Shiny Spit

Just playing around with a bare-metal skin on a fictional MkIIa.

Just wondering, if saving the DDS file for the 64bit P3Dv4, is the save format to use:

8.8.8.8 ARGB 32 bpp | unsigned
or
DXT3 ARGB 8 bpp | explicit alpha

Thanks,

George

For textures without an alpha channel I use 'DXT1 RGB, 4bpp | no alpha', for textures with alpha channel I use 'DXT 5 ARGB 8bpp | interpolated alpha'. These are lossy compression settings, but the quality is pretty good and the file size is smaller than lossless one.

The 8.8.8.8 format will not lose any colour data but will be 4 time larger than a DXT5 version. I use the lossless variant because decals and nose art can get ruined with a lossy file variant. It's up to you what you use.

Steve.

Edit: DXT5 settings
