oh thanks
they have lost their quality somewhat due to my DDS convertor. But If I were to put the spitfire painkit over the top of them, then I could perhaps regain some quality...

Re: Accusim and the single Spitfire....
Thanks guys!!! I am quite pleased.
I am building as many of the controls (switches, gauges, etc ) to a functioning level so that when the Accusim does evntually hit the streets, the switches etc will all be there to implement the functions. The idea is to make it so that the exact proceedure to start the real aircraft can be followed to start the sim (and, of course, that it won't start without following it...Ctrl E will be disabled...just to torture my mates*G*)
The one thing I have worked out so far from "dry runs" is that you would be busier than a one armed paper hanger at a few stages of getting her going.
I'm also looking forward to practicing to eliminate the "Spitfire Wobble" when changing hands on the controls to get the gear up!
Thanks again, glad to see some interest in my little obcession

Re: Accusim and the single Spitfire....
Thanks Rob,
The big part left requiring "luck" (after nightmares getting the holes cut correctly into the panel) will be the skinning..because of the monocoque fuselage, there is nowhere to hide mistakes or pop rivets, so the skinning will have to be aircraft "flush" rivets in thin sheet alu or nailed plywood. The plywood will be easier but nowhere near as authentic or nice. The alu will be great but a nightmare.....
Shouldn't have joined if I couldn't take a joke I suppose!

Hi Rob,
Sorry, just again looked in since Friday!
Sure, just give me a day or two to get a good close up picture.....it is a later model and is a hangover from when the sim WAS to be built around the Realair Spitfire and was used from the Mk IX onwards, some early '9s having the old ones. Two problems with them from my poinbt of view...too expensive these days and a radiation risk from the gauges..the newer version does not have radium paint.
I may do a mock up of the older panel on the laser cutter with my mate one of thses days.
Pics soon

Re: Accusim and the single Spitfire....
Hope you guys are still interested in the progress....
This last weekend was spent almost entirely on the Spitfire, so some fair progress made. The upper structure (save for the door) is complete. The cockpit coaming was a terror but didn't finish up too bad I think. I also put all the labels on the main panel and temp fitted the gun sight.
I also finally got the compass finished and while it is not functional, it does look pretty good and unless I put the real one beside it, it is hard to tell the difference.
The position behind the stick and well forward makes it quite hard to see and the parallax error is huge so navigation on the compass alone must have been a nightmare.
Last of all I did up a couple of templates for the skin. I am still undecided on material but the plastic I used for the templates is pretty durable and if glued onto the formers looks like it would be quite strong. It is not too bad to work with and I may just get some more, cut better pieces and use it as the final skin. I will have to test paint some to see how well it takes. The structure may need a couple of extra longerons if I go that route, as the monocoque effect is not great with the plastic skin.
Lastly, before I went away, I almost finished the seat
Once the skin is done there will only be the wiring and some detailing to do in the pit itself and the computer box and monitor tray to build (plus rearrange my whole office to cut down the desk and fit the pit in......
More soon with any luck.
