Can anyone who has little incidence of plug fouling in the Bonanza please post their throttle, prop, and mix settings during Runup?
Thanks
Optimum Runup Settings Bonanza
Re: Optimum Runup Settings Bonanza
Hey Gary, its been a while since I’ve flown the Bonanza, so you can choose to try, or discard my settings. After start the prop is full forward and mixture full rich (unless airport elevation requires leaning).
Throttle is set to produce 1000-1200 rpm until engine oil is 75 F or 24 C. I do lean the mixture after I set the throttle for RPM, for a slight drop in RPM and the rich until its in the range again.
Once the oil is warm, throttle up to 1700 RPM and exercise prop for a 300-400 RPM drop, then check magnetos at the same RPM for a 50 RPM drop, or near enough.
I’m certain I found these settings from a V35B manual I found online.
Anyway, hope this helps.

Hello Gary,
One thing to point out just in case you're not aware, is that the simplest way to avoid plug fouling in the simulation is to install the fine wire spark plugs in the maintenance hangar.
Thanks,
Nick

I will check the plug option out. I thought I did at first. But I just got that general update.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Optimum Runup Settings Bonanza
In FSX I run much leaner on the ground than in both the C172 and the C182. I don’t use the fine wire spark plugs.
I always lean on the ground, no matter what elevation I’m at.

Re: Optimum Runup Settings Bonanza
While on the ground after start and prior to run-up run as lean as possible with the engine running smoothly. If it starts to stumble enrichen until it smooths out.The leaner the better as there is no risk at all of harming the engine at idle power.
Jacques' technique sounds just fine.

Re: Optimum Runup Settings Bonanza
I use fine wire plugs and never lean on the ground unless taking off at 4000' PA or higher, runup at 1700 rpm and lean after takeoff. I have never fouled a spark plug.

Generally speaking after start, 40deg c is fine for a target to taxi. I would lean back until you get a bit of roughness then advance just enough to smooth out the engine. I would also add an item to your runup checklist to make sure the mixture is set to either full rich or whatever setting is needed to compensate for density altitude before you line up.

Re: Optimum Runup Settings Bonanza
I checked the hanger screen for my Bonanza and I saw no plug option. Are the fine plugs standard on the larger engine which I have installed?

You’ll need to click on the engine before you can choose your plugs
