Post by n452mk »

Hello guys, I hardly post anything here but I really want to dedicate some time on flying the GA's birds that I have (c182, c172 and piper), I also have tons of airports that I hardly so my question is, do we have like a VFR group or somewhere to get ideas for short cessnas / piper flights around US, caribbean and south america? also Hawaii, im tired of taking of from big airports on a c172, thanks for any ideas and help!!

Hi Efrain,
There is a group on the A2A Discord channel that does all sorts of flights with A2A aircraft - some of them are GA.

Other than that, pick a region in the country of your choice and use the map in your sim of choice to find new GA airports to visit. For instance, Friday Harbor, Washington puts you in the middle of the Puget Sound from which you can reach 50 to 100 small airports in the US and Canada.

Hi there! I live in the Allegheny County area of Pennsylvania (KAGC, KFWQ, KLBE and quite a few other airports). Those listed are all in the ORBX Global Airports file that they offer for free. There are many hills, rivers and highway systems in the area as well. I often fly my GA aircraft in the area and find great enjoyment in doing so, especially since this is the area I trained for my PPL, with KAGC and KFWQ as primary airports used for training and practice. Find some maps or sectionals and refer to the list of ORBX Freeware airports and I’m certain you will find some interesting VFR flying. I almost never fly to any stock airports anymore. Good luck in your endeavor and Happy Holidays to you and yours.

I believe I actually did a search in the ORBX Forums and found where someone had placed a list in their post. It was in MS Excel format (or similar format). Anyway, I had put together an Excel workbook and included a page that has the list. I’m sure it is somewhat outdated, because others often add new airports. I did this about a year or so ago. The workbook includes a flight log, maintenance section and pages for determining pressure Alt etc. Also includes a reference list for UTC times. The formulas are somewhat complicated too. Perhaps I could try to post it here, for others to use. In all honesty, I was reluctant to do this because someone else developed the flight log and formulas and I can’t remember who had made it, so credit could be given. I just used it to put together something that worked for me. It was freeware, but I didn’t want to be accused of taking credit for someone else’s work. I guess I could possibly state that as a disclaimer, even though I can’t remember where it came from. Perhaps i could just post the list of ORBX freeware airports. Let me check.

I found these three links. The first two are what I used in my spread sheet. The second, is a June 2019 list of freeware and payware airports including runway length and elevations. Give them a look. Hope this helped.

There are all sorts of cool flights in the Multiplayer forum. Next Sunday we're going to fly around Ecuador. viewforum.php?f=79. Typically the person in charge of the flight posts a link to a SkyVector flight plan. You can use that as is, or import it into LittleNavMap.
