Are Tundra Tires and Skis only cosmetic?

Post by akmatov »

Do they actually make a difference? Can I land on tundra or snow with narrow runway tires just as well?

Check out the different landing on tarmac with the tundra tyres compared to the standard ones. They really grab on touchdown.

Yes, they make a difference. You can even glide the tundra tires over the water surface to slow down your aircraft or to extend the available space for a landing on a beach or gravel bank. An expert bush flyer's technique.

Tundra tires will also add drag making it slower than the narrow tires

Thx guys, almost exactly what I was wondering.

Can you land and take off on tundra and snow/ice with the narrow runway type tires or are tundra and skis required? I'm guessing tundra tires and skis exist for a purpose.

Btw Lewis "A2A Youtube because a video can say a thousand screenshots,.." is really true. Froogle's youtube on the Comanche 250 is very enticing.
