My new Corsair repaints

Post by mountainhighair »

I'm reaching the point where I can start churning out repaints with my new paint kit, bumpmap and spec files. I will be posting new pics and links here from now on.

I did another cockpit repaint of white interior with brushed aluminum instrument panel for my Blackjack Reno racer. So Blackjack and Royal Navy KD-431 will be my first two repaints uploaded. Blackjack is a fictional repaint for Reno, inspired by the paint schemes of Corsair night-fighters with red-on-black. I can't remember where I came up with the Blackjack poker theme. At first I was doing a Black Widow spider layout and that just wasn't working and was too cheesy. Later I came up with the Blackjack idea. I based the main logo on the real Blackjack B-17 nose art and went from there.

Royal Navy KD-431 was a paint request from fellow member "Mattcurry" who provided photos and the impetus for this venture.

The new cockpit:

Up close. On the pant-leg some of my favorite Hollywood good bad guys, or bad good guys - Jack Reacher, John Wick & Jason Borne... Havin' a little fun. A bit blurry in this shot perhaps.

I took a radical deviation from the norm with my bumpmap files. I got tired of the "die-cast metal look" that many planes have. I am still working on the bumpmaps - trying to get a better wavy sheet metal look that I like. Too much repeating texture in the bumpmap, much like the stock FSX terrain. That doesn't work for me so I gotta come up with something.

KD-431 is ready to fly as soon as I finish the bumpmap files.

These are not uploaded yet, but coming soon. I will post any updates here.

Thanks guys! I'm not retired so bare with me. Still working on the website and finding little mistakes in my paint kit. I should just stop looking at it. This all takes more time than I have, but it's fun as... heck.

KD-431 has finally been uploaded, as well as my new bumpmap and specular files. I just uploaded new files to the server tonight and are available now.

You will see other Corsair repaints on that page, but those are not uploaded yet. Only 431 and my bumpspec files are at this time. I hope everyone enjoys this one upload for now. I would really appreciate any feedback, either here or in email. My bumpmap and specular files are quite different from the stock ones, and I'm really good at receiving criticism and opinions. I want to always keep improving things. I am my own webmaster/code writer, so I can easily make changes. Don't hesitate to voice an opinion.

Anyway, I finally have a Corsair repaint uploaded. Check it out. Lots of little changes! Just click my SIMULATED CREATIONS banner below and you will find the goodies on the Corsair page. Although the other repaints aren't uploaded yet, you will get a taste of things to come.

Wowee! Can't wait to test this repaint! Thank you.
I like the website too, the roster board at the top is nice, as are the headers for each section and I can't wait to take a look at the other files when you upload them.

Thank you Matt!
I just uploaded the new white cockpit files. It has a nice brushed aluminum panel with contrasting black instrument bezels that look pretty sharp. The screeny above doesn't have the black bezels. I also uploaded my "Blackjack" Reno racer that comes stock with the new white cockpit, and I loaded the "Lucybelle" paint. Some interesting research was involved with Lucybelle. This paint depicts how #86 looked for one particular photo shoot on Esprito Santo with the addition of the Blacksheep patch slapped on the vertical. Real Blacksheep birds were never dressed up for combat just as the stock Aircraft Factory #86 shows. Lucybelle is a modern paint meant to commemorate VMF-214.

I hope my site and downloads are running properly. Short on time as usual here. Gotta run!

A couple more paints are uploaded and ready to go. The ABG-2 paint is a historical speed-record Corsair that is intended for Reno racing in FSX, but is just a nice simple checker-board paint that looks good anywhere. In real life it would have to have large numbers put on the fuselage and wings for competition, but I didn't want to do that on this one. The Royal Navy KE-340 is one I saw in a "Squadron Signal" booklet.

I have a couple more repaints ready for download - both for the C-model. The VF-85 #53 has been restored now since its crash landing on Maui. :) The other is a beautiful C-model that is part of the Cavanaugh collection in Texas. Interesting facts about the restoration can be found here: http://cavanaughflightmuseum.com/index. ... 1d-corsair

I also tweaked my specular files by adding more blue to them. I didn't like the dull colors of the sunlight in FSX.
Enjoy!
