Hun Hunter XIV

Post by jcblom »

Hun Hunter is making progress:

sorry no pics, got his message:
Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached.

Is that my quota, or the general quota?
If it is mine, how do I delete previous messages?

Maybe I should, Lewis, maybe I should...
but for now, I'm too busy with the P-47 and the B-17!
Drawing the 65thFS "Fighting Cock" insignia (I just found out the original was drawn by Milton Caniff) took me a fair amount of time, so I thought I might as well paint more of their aircraft.
So here are Hun Hunter XIV and Doggie (which still needs some work on his tail):

Nice repaints. I like the large amount of wear on the window frame of the dark green one. I was wondering, what program do you use? Want to take a crack at making some paints myself.

Great job on your repaint of Hun Hunter! Have you posted it for download yet? I'd love to have it.

no, not yet, I'm still trying to find that pitot tube, as I don't like that yellow...

I think the pitot tube is in the base colour folder, under all the other layers. At least there's a patch in there called that. Hopefully this is what you're looking for. Or do you mean reference for the actual planes pitot tube, 'cos I just noticed your repaints have it colored yellow already? I think I need another coffee....

As you can see, the pitot is yellow in these shots, so I know it should be somewhere in the parts I painted yellow. I did find the pitot in the base layer, but somehow that influences only the rear part of the tube, the front part remains yellow, so where is that texture?

Oh, and I'm using Photoshop CS3, in combination with Illustrator CS3 (for drawing things like the fighting cock on the nose)

It took me forever to find the pitot tube. Experiment around the area I've circled. It's hidden in the hardpoint area.

Edit - paint around the OD part onto the grey, that is where part of the tube is.

Ah I see.

On another note, just a quick question. I'm doing my first historical repaint and I'm wondering what text went into the little black box painted on the panel under the portside cockpit. The detail is too small to see on any ref I can find.

Thanks in advance for any info chaps.

Little black box??
Depends on what aircraft you are painting I suppose. Quite often, it will have the names of the pilot, crew chief and/or armorer, but it could be kill marks as well..
Which a/c are you planning to do, maybe I have more info?

The details are...

"Jenny" HL-D
Has tail number 276280
350th FS, 353rd FG

There's an image here. I have a feeling it is, as you say, pilot, crew chief and armorer, etc.
It might even be to small to read when finished anyway though.

Ha, Jenny was on my list as well...

My guess would be:
Pilot
Lt C.Rowan
Crew Chief
Sgt Dossett
Ass.Crew Chief
Sgt Boliger
Armorer
Cpl Bodum

This should just be readable on this model I think..
Good luck!

Thanks so much for that. Looks like a more accurate repaint of the letters, ship, etc will be needed lol.
Great reference. And my wife thinks I have to many airplane books :D

Cheers!
