Placing Ground Objects In Game

Post by stickman »

First of all, here is an illustrated list that borton had made, of all commonly placed objects. Very handy. :)

Here are my instructions on placing objects using the ObjectAdds method, made some years ago.

Splendid. It works ...many thanks!

Many thanks to Borton for that excellent illustrated object guide.

Is there an object limit as there is for tiles for some sims?

CrisGer,
Many thanks to Borton for that excellent illustrated object guide.
Yes, my thanks, too. I have used it often in the last year.
80% of it will still be good for the next upgrade v2.11, also. Some airfield objects will change, tho.
Is there an object limit as there is for tiles for some sims?
There is no object number limit, per terrain tile that I know of. I have never exceeded it if there is a limit. Osram never mentioned a limit.
The limit with placing objects is.. are there so many that it drags down computer performance?
Ben made it possible to place many city buildings at London by making multi object "templates" that fit the terrain,
then making these templates into a new BIN file which treats them all as if they were a single object.
For cities so far.

Speaking of terrain tiles.. there is a problem that is, wherever a tile has any portion of a white cliff,
then that entire tile is a "dead zone" as for placing objects. :(
A good way to see the tile boundaries is by editing a line in the bdg text file. This one, about half way down the text:

HIRES_LANDSCAPE_OFFSET = 0.400000

Change it to HIRES_LANDSCAPE_OFFSET = 1.400000
and you will get green (or blue in my blue sea case) lines that show the tile lines. Under the land terrain is the sea lying underneath.

---

Where are you interested in placing objects?
Ben has recently rebuilt all of the Fighter Command airfields, and many other airfields for v2.12. For all, he has also changed the underlying terrain.
He also has changed many airfield objects to be different than what they are in v2.11.
For (both English and French) farms, villages, towns, and cities, then nothing will change, and you are OK.

If you wish to modify some other English targets, like Docks and Factories, which I am currently working on, but many others left needing a loving touch,
and also some back water airfields that I know Ben has not yet done,
then PM me and we will exchange e-mails.

I can give you a Tool and guidance on how to place "real" objects in game that can be damaged or destroyed for target places.

Aloha!
