One thing that I recognized was the symbol on the back of the tail.
That was the symbol of the 463rd B.G.Cool
And there was a B-17 with the 463rd with that AAF serial number
(42-31684),tail number 231684 under a Missing Air Crew Report (6864) on 7/7/1944 with the 774th B.S. on a mission to Blechhammer. The name of the plane is "The Joker" and there is quite a story to it. It's mentioned in the Lt.Tonning crew book and in a great article by Svatopluk Vaculík who let me reprint it on the 463rd's website.Plus I noticed the Joker is on the tail of the ship. You got it right !
