Autopilot does not seem to work

Post by JanF »

I have problem using the autopilot. I turn on every switch but the plane does not hold heading and altitude. The PDI is always centered no matter what I do. Turning the AP button for turn has no effect. The only thing that seem to have changed by turning on the AP is that I can't control the plane with yoke anymore. Have I missed something

Hi JanF .
The C1 is a very basic auto pilot , and the aircraft needs to be correctly trimmed before you engage it , and even when its engaged , you need to constantly trim the aircraft , else you will not maintain heading or alt hold .
I suggest you go to the A2A store FSXA B17 and look at the videos scott did , and also read the manual , in the meantime you can always select the Basic autopilot in shift 3 while you learn the rest of the B17 systems.

Here’s a link to tuning the C-1. Doing so helps cancel out a fair amount of “slop” in this very basic pilot aid. You may still need to add a bit of rudder to keep the turn coordinated, and, its always best to keep the turns shallower rather than steeper. Once you get used to it, you’ll find the C-1 to be a really useful aid on long flights!

Hi guys!
I confirm that the AP C1 doesn't work for me at least in P3D4.5. I just tried it in FSX and it worked flawlessly!

As I said the C1 works very well in FSX but doesn't work at all in P3D4 even if you "tweak" the different controls!

I had the different experience of only being able to command turns to the right…anything to the left was unresponsive. I think I’d like to test it again and observe the control surfaces while commanding them to the stops to get a more complete picture.

———-edit I just completed another flight and, yes, I cannot get the C-1 to turn other than to the right. I’m at a bit of a loss. It has been a while since I last flew the B-17 but I do think I’ve configured settings correctly and fairly certain I’m not guilty of operator error! I’ll make sure tomorrow that I’m all updated!
If you still have FSX, try it and you will see it works in it!
