B-17 NAV Receiving Tone & Cruise settings @ 7.000 ft.

Post by Guus »

Hi All,

How can I disable the ... "reception tone from NAV stations"?
And what is the optimum cruise configuration at 7000 ft. ? The "Clipboard" says: "34" / 2200 RPM 150mph. [@ what Alt./Weight?] If I set this; first my "Man. Press. Turn selector "to zero, and then my" Throttle "at about 50% to reach this" SLOW "speed. If I set the setting in the manual way: MAP Selec. 4" - 6 ", full Throttle, then I'm almost 200 mph! What are the RIGHT Settings ?!

Greetings, Guus.

since the B-17 don't have a nav radio, you may need to go into your default flight and stop the ident sound from there. FSX has a keyboard setup up to toggle the sound on and off, so that may be what started it.

on page 15 in the manual there is a chart for cruising at 5000ft. It should not be far off.
Kind Regards

OK Tomas!
You are absolutely right ! I could have known that I can disable the "ident" in a default FSX aircraft. If I give the NAV idents a code within the FSX "Control Settings", this will not work. The ident for ILS frequencies on NAV 1 in the "B17" does work!
On my page 50 of "B17 Manual" there is indeed a Cruise setting for 5000 ft, 150 MTAS, 29 ", 1650 RPM, 60,000 Lbs. This is apparently the right Cruise Speed. So the Turbos at this low flight level are not yet needed (Zero) not to exceed that speed [150 MTAS].
Thank you for your info!

To disable the Nav beacon tones you can use the small switch at the rear left of the pilots side. If I recall it reads, voice, tone or both. Switch it to voice and the morse should stop.

I hope this helps.

Try that before using FSX key strokes.

David,
Once I tried that before and I was glad to found that solution ! But the other day it was not working anymore ...
Probably you have a point in saying "Try that before using FSX keystrokes" ! I will try that. Thank you !
