C-1 autopilot light not lighting when turned on

Post by Masterius »

I'm not seeing the red lamp lighting up when the C-1 autopilot is turned on. Should it?

Hi.
According to the manual , yes it should light up , when at or above 1500ft , then you wait till aircraft is trimmed in level flight , set your hdg on the flux gate , then turn on the tel tail light switch , light the ind lights settle then turn on ail/rud/ele and PDI switches on the C-1.

P.S. just tested my B-17 C-1 no red light .

Mine still doesn't light, and now I've noticed my bomb door indicator light keeps intermittently flashing.

Gotta be gremlins.

But I'm flying the A2A B-17. Or am I missing something?

No, I was just confirming your observation of no red light illuminating on the C-1. Its been a couple of years since I changed platforms, so no recent B-17 flights for me. That light may be associated with the switch next to it labeled “Pilot” and “2nd Stn.” and maybe the light would illuminate when the second station was engaged. I think A2A outlined this as an optional extra C-1 at or near the navigator’s station which A2A did not model. So, that switch is disabled, so that could explain the light not functioning.

Well, thought I'd give it a go and make a workaround . . . doesn't work, though. ::grumbles::

while 1 do
if ipc.readLvar(“L:c1MasterSwitch”) == 1 then
ipc.writeLvar(“L:c1RedLampOn”, 1)
ipc.writeLvar(“L:c1RedLamp”, 1)
else
ipc.writeLvar(“L:c1RedLampOn”, 0)
ipc.writeLvar(“L:c1RedLamp”, 0)
end
ipc.sleep(5000)
end

The light in question is not a C-1 'power on' light but was intended to indicate that the C-1 functions were transferred to a '2nd station'.

As it turns out, the 'Control Transfer' feature was not included in this model so the light was disabled, even though the switch can be operated. The switch does nothing. The manual on page 133 states that this feature was not included.

So, just put this topic to rest.

How cool would it be to have an Accusim Norden bombsight and be able to switch to the bombardier station?
