Turning in over La Jolla CA, Torrey Pines and Black's Beach in the distance
Letting down over MCAS Miramar (invisible under the clouds)
Little friends join the fun, all from the Checker Tail Gang
Over Gillespie Field (KSEE) east of San Diego, headed back out to the coast
A2A Fortress and Mustangs, Active Sky Next real weather, REX Texture Direct with Soft Clouds, ORBX/FTX Southern California, FS Recorder formation, all via FRAPS and Picasa
By delightful coincidence, as I edit this, I'm listening to a real B-17's four Wrights as Nine-O-Nine heads out to the coast from KCRQ, over our house, on the evening launch with Colling's Foundation passengers. Some kind of lovely poetry in that.
Can't decide if the best music is created by their P-51C or their B-25, the B-17 and B-24 by contrast a mellow contrabass drone. I'm leaning toward the B-25 for sheer volume and the throaty roar, not to mention the fact that my Dad flew them in training before going to A-20s and A-26s. But V-12s play a lovely tune when attached to a P-51 (or most anything, actually.)
Inspired, I just called the airport's noise office and left a recording. "I'm sick and tired of having to run out on the back patio and watch those airplanes go over and listen to the beautiful sounds they make. This is not a noise complaint, this is a noise appreciation call. Thank you for making it possible."
I'll be fun to see how they handle that at the next monthly city Airport Council meeting where the noise office has to report their statistics.
