Thanks for the post. I am reading one of the best and most comprehensive books on the Strategic Bombing campaign against Germany in WWII. As you said the photo in your post is worth a thousand words. As Americans we should be thankful of these men every day of our lives. I am a Vietnam vet but my service pales in comparison to the sacrifices made by these men.

Wow, thanks for the post and share. More distracting things for me to browse through  And that colour image certainly is pretty special and jam packed full of atmosphere.

I found this link which is related to the book I mentioned earlier. The author Miller is going to lead a Museum Tour in England this spring. I also learned that HBO is going to make a miniseries based on the book. Check out the link for details.

Four men (boys) bailed out a wounded B-17 over France. They reconnected years later, and the son of one of them sent me their letters which explained what happened to each of them. I added some pictures to give it context. You find the story at
http://tailspinstales.blogspot.com/2008 ... yanks.html

I won't spoil the tale by telling you how they were shot down and what happened when they hit the ground, but their first person accounts are extraordinary.

And if this is the kind a thing that you enjoy...how do you get several hundred lumbering B-17s into a reasonable semblance of a formation?

For anyone interested I throughly recommend the 303rd BG book B-17's over Germany 'Half a wing, three engines and a PRAYER' and if possible the latest edition as its been revised and updated greatly since first publication. A nice thick book that tells the tale of one crew and there journey BUT then cuts off mid mission to the other crews and there experiences. So whilst reading about a B-17 being hit you might then expect to read first hand accounts from the perspective of those in the shot down B-17 its an amazing book that'll make you laugh and cry.

Ive had the book since I purchased it at 16 at Heathrow on my way to my last family holiday in Florida, spent that two weeks with the book gripped in my hands couldn't put it down, amazing eye opening MUST read for all WW2 aviation buffs.
