Not to be a rivet counting bit twiddler, but the Cavanaugh P-40 is an N model. According to their description, it does have a Allison V 1710-115 1,460 h.p. Close enough.

I was there a few weeks ago for their between Memorial and July 4th event. I almost heard it running but they couldn't get it started so I had to "settle" for a Seafire, a B-25 (the one from Galveston - its not blue anymore) and a T-28. So cool.

I bit more on that airplane from Canvanaugh's descripion: She is carrying the paint scheme of a B model Flying Tiger, #5, flown by General Charles Bond. It is VERY good looking.
There were so many aircrafts at the museum, so I'm glad Scott chose the correct one. That B paint on the N model was very helpfull tip ;)

Some notes about non-included FS9 version. The cockpit won't look that good in FS9. The "4mm verts" limitation won't allow to make so rounded curves and small details, the lack of dynamic specular maps (you can't see their effect on still screenshots) makes the cokpit looks dead and flat in FS9 in comparison with FSX. Then the external model without the dynamic bump and spec maps is pretty downgraded.

Cavanaugh is one of my favorite hiding places. The fact that it is next door to the place I rent airplanes for real is a BIG plus. Their P-51D, WD-C, is a real beaut. And so are a lot of their airplanes.

I hope the guys at Shockwave don't mind me posting these. I did the exterior textures and bumps for the upcoming early P40 from Shockwave. Here are some preview screenshots of the Russian P40 that will be included.

Sorry for the large size, I wanted to keep the detail.

P-40

Post by cflord »

Scott

Now thats a great looking P-40. Any chance the P-40 could be developed into an individual airplane package that we could fly in FS2004/FSX?

Keep the shinny side up and the dirty side down!

not bad but perhaps a bit to low in detail by planking and riveted bolts or cockpit also f.e.
I think in FSX the Details could be a bit higher like Oleg´s IL2 follower SOW

More detail is not necessarily better.
In the first pic the panel lines and rivets don't look natural but way overdone.
I have the impression to look at a small scale model instead of a real aircraft.
Meant to impress the market segement it is develloped for.
Not my cup of tea.

Sure, a shiny texture looks more attractive and bring the bump mapping on the first plan. We resigned to do it like that and followed the real thing.
