SAMSUNG 49 inch Gaming, Ultra-wide Curved Monitor

Post by sage »

Is there anyone who is using the SAMSUNG 49 inch Gaming, Ultra-wide curved monitor happy with its display of aircraft? Specific Pro's and Con's would be appreciated for I'm considering purchasing one.
Thanks, Sage

I don't think mine is a Samsung brand, rather an Asus Rog Strix or something like that, but I'd never go back to a non-widescreen monitor. It and TrackIR are now mandatory for me. I don't know what you're looking for in terms of specifics, but there are certainly no negatives that come to mind, other than when recording video, it comes out a bit stretched looking because of the width, but when you're in the seat in the middle of the curve it seems perfect to me.

To see what it looks like on a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtFeJ-yXii0&t=943s

I've had the Samsung CRG-9 49 inch for about two years after having a 3 x 24 set-up for about 10 years prior. Eliminating the dreaded and annoying bezel is well worth the change for the UW vs. 3-monitor set-ups. The pros of the 49 UW is the extreme wide horizontal view with a con being the sacrifice of the vertical view. My subjective opinion is the preference for the increased lateral view over the vertical but in the end, it's personal preference. Google and Youtube are your friends in making a monitor decision.

This thread is making me feel inferior with my paltry 27"! Does no one care about my mental health not to mention all the passive aggressiveness and Big Screens Matter stuff.

It's not how big it is, it's er..how quick you can turn it on :P

Half of 49" is 24½" so I win by 2½".

I have the Samsung Odyssey G9 49 inch monitor, and have had it since the release. I love it...

There were some early problems with some of them - mostly fixed with firmware updates, and in a few instances I heard of, replacement monitors. Apart from that they seem to be fine. They do require a pretty powerful machine, though, as they are in practice 4K, even though they are 1440p. I tend to not use HDR, as I don't like how the colors are. That could be the fact that my "old" G9 doesn't have the "Neo"-version number of backlights.

For all kinds of gaming, and for productivity, I just love it. When you can see the whole panel of the plane and slightly outside of the side windows makes for a different sense of speed and depth. It's really immersive. I still use Track-IR, but I can often "get away" with using it less than I needed. And I don't need to turn as much, as some of what you're looking for will be visible in the peripheral vision. It does of course not wrap as fully as a 3-monitor setup, but it's getting there. How fun would it be with a 3-monitor 49-inch?

Attached is a video of my setup. It's about my yoke/rudder, but you'll absolutely see the monitor in action.

All the Accusim-planes are in my hangar, but they aren't sitting long enough for their engines to cool much before next flight!
