Connie Round the World

Post by bullfox »

Here we are at Teneife South after crossing the Atlantic from Princess Juliana, 2627 miles. I calculate max range on that leg would have been 3243 mile but we would have landed on fumes at that range. Next Stop Corfu LGKR, then Dubai. From Dubai we take the longest leg of the trip to Phuket, Thailand just over 3000 miles. So I would like some advice on best altitude, and engines settings.

I took the Connie round the world at the Equator with several legs of around 3,000 nm. I cruised at the standard 29", 2,200 RPM, and chose the cruise altitude that gave me the best forecast wind for a given leg. More details here: viewtopic.php?f=133&t=60896

Very nice!

I’ve been doing my own round the world following the route the 1924 Army flyers took in their east to west first ever air circumnavigation.

A circumnavigation is really interesting. I fly lower in the Flying Iron P-38 and it’s been a lot of fun seeing the various countries, the terrain, and how cities and farms are laid out, plus flying in real weather you get an idea of the challenges the original pilots faced. In a P-38 you just dodge them unless they cover your destination.

No matter how folks decide to do it, it’s really fun, educational, and highly recommended!

I have been flying mostly between 15,000 and 20,000 feet in IFR which sometimes cause problems in P3D. The flight path has been north and south a bit because I am using only updated airports from Orbx and Fly Tampa although Sri Lanka and Phuket were from other regional developers at Sim Market.

Good times bullfox. I've been to almost all countries now in the Connie. I've crisscrossed all over but mostly in an easterly path. This, my third time around, is mostly a westerly path. The winds make long legs more difficult and the leg I'm on right now is Isle of Man to Keflavik, Iceland. I do love the South Pacific flights. I've spent a lot of time in the B17, P51 and Connie touring the Pacific Islands. Enjoy your flights and be safe.
Here is my Connie history in Google Earth. Even went to McMurdo Station.
