NOOB-2A

Post by needlenoses »

Ok; I came back; I am the one who can't get MSFS to install on a windows 10 machine. Two previous attempts directly from MS. Now the machine is Widows 11 ( fresh install ) so I am thinking about giving it a third try from Microsoft.
But, is there a better way to go using A2A; like from scratch; not just add-ons. Input requested before I make a move. Sorry for delay but times have been hectic.

A2A doesn't have any products for the new Microsoft Flight Simulator yet.

A2A addons are available for Microsoft FSX (available on Steam for $24.99) and for Lockheed Martin's Prepa3D aka P3D. Both install to and operate in Windows 10.

FSX is from 2006 and its venerable age causes some players to have technical problems. P3D is currently supported with updates but it costs more. The A2A addons for each platform operate similarly. P3D versions have better graphics features including moving shadows in the cockpit and rain droplets on the windscreen. P3D v4 and v5 also support VR.

I just got the new MSFS from the Microsoft Store. It installed to Windows 10 as soon as my purchase was approved. Its visual representation of the world is absolutely amazing. It also has renders live weather impressively. We're all waiting anxiously for A2A Accusim aircraft for it.

Everything that I've seen seems to indicate that the Steam version works much better than the MS version. I've only ever had the Steam version, and other than the problems which nearly everyone had with SU5, it's worked great for me. Even then, everything installed fine, just 3rd party aircraft were ganked for a while. And check out some of the Just Flight offerings, not quite up to the gold standard of A2A, but great planes in their own right, and the Hawk T1 is hella fun to fly.

That's my experience too, Steam version negates any and all MS Store issues as it doesn't use it for this aspect. Only issue ive had was SU5 related otherwise smooth sailing. Cant wait for full release of the Reno pack and GOTY edition with the new free planes for the latter!

I got it after Update 6 and I've had no problems using Microsoft Store.

Same here. Never had any problems with updates anyway. As I'm not using any of the zillion games and just use Flight Simulators, I have banned Steam from any of my computers many years ago and never felt any regrets.

Same here. No problems to speak of with 2020.

Likewise...I bought MSFS through the MS Store for the same reason I buy A2A from A2A. No problems other than a couple self inflicted issue early in the experience.

Yesterday I would have said I've never had any problems with MSFS from the Microsoft Store on Windows 10, but it just updated to 1.20.6.0 for the second time in two weeks, 79GB. I never changed any files in between. I have a 350GB limit, that crap needs to stop.
