Interesting Homemade documentary Project Mercury 4K

Post by JJB17463rdBombGroup »

Here is an interesting documentary on YouTube on the old Project Mercury program of the 1960's
Something that Pilots or those into aircraft would enjoy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8iUg1O0fN4

I will add a little puzzle here.
The transportation of two objects of mass between distant points in space by the differences in mass and the warping of space-time.
No engine needed though very simple mechanics can be involved in some circumstances.

That era at the Cape played an important part of my life. We transferred to PAFB in the late 50s and stayed until the end of the Mercury program. We lived on base right across the street from the beach. If we were out of school during a Mercury launch we just went over to the beach and looked straight across the water with a clear view of the launch pad. If school was in, they would let us all go outside and watch the Mercury launches live. I saw all of the Mercury launches live back then.

Cocoa Beach was a tiny close nit community back in the 50s & 60s. I think I read somewhere that the population was only in the 20,000s, with most of those either working at the Cape or at PAFB. It wasn't that unusual to go eat at the CO Club or in town for breakfast and see some of those early astronauts. My 3rd grade teacher lived just south of PAFB and had a mother-in-laws apartment attached to her house. That's where Walter Cronkite stayed when he was in town broadcasting the manned shots.

My father worked at the Cape and had an office at the Tech Lab on Cocoa Beach. The Tech Lab is the famous office building in Cocoa Beach on A1A, with the missiles in front lining the parking lot. He was one of the lead officers of the Titan I & Titan II missile programs. He was also involved in the Titan III Dynasoar program. The Dynasoar was the original space shuttle, but one being designed for the Air Force. Many of the non-manned space shots back then were not announced ahead of time, and for a few of the shot families of the Cape crew would meet at the back gate near where the cruise ships are now, and get escorted by the APs to viewing sites on the Cape to see the launches up close and personal.

As most kids during that time in that location the world revolved around space, missiles, and going to the beach. :-)

I grew up just south of Jacksonville. On a clear day we could see the launches from where we lived and occasionally go down to Titusville and watch them. It was cool following the space program during that era.

I was a toddler at the time though I have very faint memories about seeing the later flights on television. I remember the Gemini missions more and fondly remember Walter Cronkite.
Here are some more documentaries about the subject

Not sure if that answers your puzzle (if it's even a puzzle question :) ) or not but that's the math to it.
F=G*m1m2/R2
Force = {Gravity * (Mass1 * Mass2)} divided by Distance or as close as I can remember it. I'm too lazy to google it right now.
