About Type Ratings

Post by GaryRR »

Are the FAA type ratings for the 172 and the 182 the same and only requiring a check ride to qualify on one from the other?
Thanks

I've been retired as a CFI for quite some time now but unless things have changed I believe for the 172 all you need is your private certificate listing "Airplane single engine land". For the 182 you will need a high performance endorsement (over 200HP).
Not related to your question is the Complex Endorsement which would require a retractible gear added to what you get in the 182.
