Hi GL_64.
The B17 Autopilot is not as complex as it looks , but the B17 does come with a basic MS autopilot that you can use while you learn about the real B17 autopilot.
Just bear in mind the B17 autopilot needs constant trimmming , as it will drift of course and not stay on alt without constant trimming.
regards alan.

Re: Huge 40% Sale + B-17 P3D release!
LOVE THIS!
A2A's B-17 was my most-favored warbird to fly because I always had company.
I haven't fired up P3D since FS2020 came out, but the B-17's now given me reason to do so.
Looking forward to one day having A2A's warbirds in FS2020; but will enjoy what I have.
Thanks, A2A!

I wonder if the Flight1 GTN 650 would work. Certainly should at least as a 2D panel.
Re: Huge 40% Sale + B-17 P3D release!
Picked up the Cherokee and the B-17. Now the only thing I don't have is the P51 Mil and the 172, which I don't really think I want. Should be enough for many many years of fun. I'm surprised how great the Cherokee is, even if it's a little simpler than the Comanche.
Re: Huge 40% Sale + B-17 P3D release!
A question about the B17 G. Am I correct in assuming that it has no autopilot whatsoever ? And can I instead hand over the flight controls to the co pilot and let him function as an autopilot so to say ?

Hi janF.
You are totally wrong on that , the Autopilot is the C-1 or the basic flightsim auto pilot , these can be opened in a 2d popup , the C-1 can if you have trackIR or a VR be operated from the VC it is on the rear of the pedestal between the two pilots .
The type of Autopilot you wish to use is selectable in shift+3 menu , center bottom button C-1 by default , and in flight the Autopilot popup is controlled by shift+9 to (view/hide) , explanation on the C-1 is in the pilots manual page 16 and in the Accusim manual page 133 to 135 for full explanation on the C-1.
The crew will inform you of issues or comment on your flying , I.E. complement on good flying or tell you you need some time off if you fly or land the B17 badly , but YOU have to fly the B17 , either manually or by the Autopilot , reading the manual is advisable .

As an aside, how does the Connie AP compare, given it's 10 years in the future ?

Hi GL_64.
The Conni is a sperry Autopilot , the C-1 is a Honeywell .
both are based around a gyro , the sperry company i believe made the first gyro autopilot , and both the sperry in the conni and the Honeywell C-1 autopilot in the B17/B24 aircraft of ww2 where very basic autopilots , the main difference between them was in the yaw control on the C-1 that used a different gyro to the gyro controlling the aileron and elevator , which i believe helped on the bomb runs , the sperry used one gyro for yaw/pitch/roll , and needed constant trim adjustments , to find out more info , you would need to google , i tried but could not as yet find the dates when these two where first designed .
regards alan.

Re: Huge 40% Sale + B-17 P3D release!
The AP in the Connie is surprisingly simple given the purpose of the airplane. It has 3 big mechanical clutch levers to engage each axis. There is a adjusting knob to centre each of the axis trim before engaging the clutches. Once the AP is fully engaged you keep adjusting the heading and pitch to control the aircraft. There is Gyroscopic drift to take care of every 15 minutes and the altitude doesnt have a ALT HOLD. Its a very much hands on AP.
Edit : Looks like Alan responded slightly before me.

Thnx for that.
I'm starting with B17....watching Youtube videos ate the moment.
I'll move onto the Connie later as I suspect it's even more complex.

Yes, the B-17 is quite simple compared to the Connie and the B377. The young lads had enough to worry about flying the missions to be fiddling with too much.

And the real thing had such C-1 autopilot right ? Regarding the manual I see in the store I need to first buy it to see it.alan CXA651 wrote: ↑31 Dec 2020, 01:43 Hi janF.

Yes the A2A gives us the choice of the original AP or a default GPS based style, I think.

Hi janF.
If you go to the store FSX B17 , you could read the manual free before purchase , i have never been disappointed with any A2A purchases yet , in my book they are the RR of sim addon aircraft.

It got to the end of Dec 23 down here in NZ and I was resigned to waiting for the next holiday that's more or less a global one to see if you had a sale then, it was a wonderful early christmas present to start Christmas Eve by finding you had a really good sale going on Closely followed by 3 more early Christmas presents
At the bottom of the paypal login page there's a link to use a credit card without logging in, so "paypal" becomes just another site to process a credit card payment. Worked for me.
thanks
