FS2020 A2A Aircraft

Post by gordonb »

Hi

So with the immanent release of FS2020 can i install my A2A aircraft into this product or are A2A going to give us a new install for FS2020? Also will my A2A aircraft be compatable both with the Steam version and the XBox Microsoft version?

Thanks for your time

Gordon.

I heard there will be a "legacy mode" to allow for a little bit of backwards compatibility with old addons but a2a is so complicated it most likely won't work and even if it did I don't know how addons would even work on the xbox version.

Probably it still is as stated.
Scott - A2A wrote:[W]e can't port any airplanes to FS2020 or any flight sim for that matter. Every airplane we make from this point on, whether it's for FS2020 or P3D is being developed with completely different tools. The end result that the user sees will not be all that different, but from our point of view (developer) it's completely different.

We are currently developing the Aerostar 600 for FS2020 and P3Dv5. We have no timelines because core elements are still being worked out. But the aircraft that follows the Aerostar 600 should be quicker as it will be the second one made with these new tools, but if that aircraft is a Comanche 250 (which we already have made) or another brand new one, it will literally take exactly the same amount of time. As nothing is carried forward.

So don't expect quantity from us, but do expect quality. It's conceivable we will never make an aircraft for FS2020 that we've already made for Prepar3D and instead see two airplanes per year moving forward, all brand new.

If that is still the case it is a real shame. From what I can see MSFS2020 will be a leap for VFR flyers and I can’t think of any better planes than the A2A fleet for that. If we don’t get them in MSFS2020 it’ll be a real loss. Quite disappointing to be honest...

Not really a loss. I would rather them continue their current plan of releasing brand new content with the new accu-sim code. FSX and P3D aren't going anywhere so we will always have access to those planes already developed. If they continue to only update already developed products for newer and newer sims, then we may only get a new product once every long while.

Well, for me the case with the new MS Flight Simulator has always been that it has been with all the previous sims: I'm standing by, even if trying it out briefly, before there starts to be some actual content for the platform. (With DCS, it has taken years, same with the Condor, but my instinct has kept me along this far.) I wonder if all the hype around this new sim has gotten some potential developers into jumping the shark together with the sim developer, whereas we could, in a few months time, be back in the speculative, 'just when there will be any quality content' state.

Of course, I hope the new platform gets on well. But I'm worried about these level of hype. As silly as it sounds, it is sometimes better to release a humble development project than to have all the potential customer base to discard their decades worth of hobby investment in naive hopes of a turnkey solution that perhaps never comes. I don't like angry mobs, wherever they will project their angriness of not having at hand that what was expected.

But these are just my personal thoughts, based on absolutely nothing. In short, I'm afraid of a kick-back, but I do hope that it is gotten over eventually.

2 aircraft per year sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Plus I’d rather see new aircraft come to life rather than just redo an existing fleet. Sure, in a perfect world I’d like to see every accusim aircraft in all sims but that just isn’t a reality.

It's a sweet deal if you happen to like the first one in the A2A queue. I have zero interest in a twin, gonna be torture waiting a year or more for something I want to fly, and there's no guarantee I'll like the second one. But would I want straight-up portovers? No, I'd want them to take full advantage of every MSFS feature rather than just make them flyable. I may be one sad default aircraft pilot for a while...

I will keep flying P3D and FSX for a while and at some stage dable in the new MSFS until it matures a bit. No point ditching all the current fun just yet.

I understand your point. And yes new planes will be exciting but I also think the GA fleet is a very classic part of the real world GA fleet and it’s gonna be a shame to not have those represented in the new MSFS.

My favorite A2A airplanes are the warbirds and the Comanche 250. It looks like we may get the Comanche but doesn't look good for the warbirds.

I love the A2A Spitfire, Civ Mustang and Cherokee, but apart from those I had little serious interest in any of their others - until I got to fly them. Now I love them all. I don't think it matters what particular airplanes A2A choose to develop in the future; we know from experience that whatever they make will be superlative. I'm looking forward to some very pleasant surprises.

I am not very excited about the aircraft lineup for MSFS. I have this thing about older more exciting airplanes. The ones they have for MSFS may be very good airplanes by industry standards, but I don't lik 'em.

I agree BigT,

I would have liked to see some sort of a classic radial at least. But we'll just have to wait for devs to bring stuff into the new platform.
