W10 2004 Update

Post by wblackret »

Hello all! Unless I missed something in my unplanned absence, is the W10 2004 update still causing issues for people or has that been sorted out. Seems to me that somewhere I read that it is suggested the update be installed prior to the arrival of the new MSFS.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm presently running P3DV4.5 and would like to install MSFS probably next month and run both for a while until A2A start releasing for MSFS. I've read that Win10 2004 update causes issues in P3DV4, so I'm hoping that we'll get some answers on this.

Thanks,
Mike

There may be something on your system that Microsoft have flaged as incompatible with the update. Have a read of this and see if anything stands out in your mind.

It seems there are ways to get 2004 manually but I think I will hold off for now.

I hate doing updates. Too many updates have had problems. I hold my breath every time one happens.

I'm running an earlier Windows, not 2004 (it says build 18363), haven't had Microsoft graciously download the update in the background without my knowledge or permission, and the MSFS Beta is running just fine.

Nothing to be frightened of Hooky. Just let it do it's thing, don't interfere with it and all will be well.

Updates are automatic on my system and still no sign of 2004. Still on 1909. I assume there's a reason for not being presented with the new one.

Well, I haven't tried the P3Dv4 since I updated to Win10. I did update the OS to the 2004 well back, and have noticed no issues whatsoever. I suspect that if v4 had some issues it would be a kind of special case then.

I've found it is the best, whenever there are any updates either to the sim (or to any such program for that matter), or to the operating system, to make sure the relevant drivers, namely the GPU's, are the latest ones as well. Kind of obvious, but following some discussion out there in the www, there apparently is some folklore out there that there are some magic, out-of-date driver versions that work like charm while the latest ones would strip one of their hard-tweaked extra digit of FPS or something. No wonder there are so many fragile setups out there.

I googled how to check and it turns out I'm on 1909.

Thanks. Checked that link and it looks like I should be OK. When I check my system settings, it tells me I can update to Win10 2004 if I choose to press the install button now. I'm on version 1903 at the moment and seem to have skipped 1909. Your link tells us that 2004 will be rolled out in stages, so many here may not have a choice.

Cheers,
Mike

Snap! I tend to leave my updates alone, they get deployed when they get deployed. I think only once so far Ive had to force an update to happen before it was sent to me and that was for a certain platform coming on the 18th.

When I click on „start“ (or what was „start“ on earlier versions) and type „update“ I get the updates window and it shows me 2004 on hold. It says it will be updated when it‘s ready. I hope they will really take their time and it won‘t screw up my P3D.

Just a heads up.

Well, yesterday I took the plunge and updated to W10 2004. Quite painless and all seemed to go well. Started up P3D v4.5 to do a flight. Once again, no initial problem. Then as I was starting up avionics, the Flight 1 GTN 750/650 was like watching a slow motion slide show. Closed down the simulator and went to the Flight 1 Purchase Agent and updated to version 2.21 for P3D and FSXSE. Back to the simulators and all appeared to be working fine. Did a couple short flights with same result. So, at this time, rather painless. Computer updated and ready for new simulator.
