Happy Independence Day to our fellow Americans, enjoy your long weekend!
In the meantime freedom and independence needs to be preserved here in Germany too. Big demonstrations today to prevent a motorcycle ban from our roads. Yes, you read correctly. They have already forbidden the demo in Munich.. That‘s what freedom and liberty is in Germany I can‘t eat as much as I’d like to vomit. Enjoy and preserve yours!

Re: Happy Independence Day
Thank you MarcE for the well wishes. This is a very important day here in the States.
Personal freedoms are being trounced on across the globe and always under the guise of safety, the greater good, or some such other idea to get people to back it.
Freedom is definitely something worth defending and fighting for.

All the best to our former colonies in North America.
As for the ban. I believe that is proposed to apply for Sundays and Bank Holidays and is more a measure to battle noise levels. The ban is not cool as far as I'm concerned. As for noise, I think 80db is being proposed generally. Here in the UK it's been 80db for all motorcycles since 1985. Cars, as far as I know, are lower still, with a 74db limit.

Thank you we happily celebrate the beautiful (Lockean-Jeffersonian) violent revolution (foundation of our country) here regardless of the 1948 U.S. National Security Act Federal laws that prohibit the right of revolution or rebellion.
We still love our mother country as well.
Freedom and liberty to all.

I have no problems with the idea of noise limits. I remember the first time I saw (and heard) a BMW motorcycle and decided it sounded like a car. I don't remember what the one I owned sounded like.
Somehow I don't think Harley owners would agree. But I don't blame them. There's something quite visceral about the sound of a Harley.

Re: Happy Independence Day
Just for some perspective. My 1997 Fireblade has a non-standard silencer. It compliments the 'better' air filter and jetting in the carburettors (remember those? ). It's not ridiculously loud and has passed it's MOT every year so far.
My brother's FZ900 on the other hand is exempt from restriction. It has no silencers but some form of 4 into 1 Harris system, with nothing in it. Sounds beautiful to me and I am very envious. So yeah, generally the cops ignore you most of the time. As long as you 'don't extract the urine'.
Steve.

Re: Happy Independence Day
it's a problem to solve on a technical base, not with restrictions. probably the vast majority of bikers wouldn't mind quieter built bikes. But you can't ban something you have sold legally. As with most things prohibitions are the easiest way but it splits the people even further. *cough* Boston *cough*
My BMW R NineT has a great sound but it's not loud.. you hear it but it fades quickly with distance.

Re: Happy Independence Day
Happy 4th to all Americans. For those who don't know US history, today is the day that celebrates American's declaring their independence from an all powerful monarchy and setup a brand new set of rules where the people vote and decide their future. A congress made of direct representatives of the people that are voted in or out every 2 years. This was a brilliant design that meant the people could swiftly act just two years after a new president was elected to change a country's direction. And we have a Senate made of two representatives from each state, no matter how large or small the population. So the congress represents people, the Senate states, an executive branch (Presidency) that carries out the laws (all laws must be voted in by the congress, senate and President) and a judicial branch that interprets these laws and rules on how they are applied. It is truly an amazing system designed to let people live free, speak freely, and pursue happiness in whatever way they see fit (religious freedom, personal freedom, etc).
