P3D V5 AXIS assignment for A2A Products?

Post by aceridgey »

Hi all,

I believe this is new to V5 but may have been in V4.

We now have an 'axis' assignment for use of tiller and rudders independendtly when flying the big jets.

This also affects A2A aircraft. Take the C182, the axis assignment i have set to a slider on my HOTAS WARTHOG, I now get extremely precise steering with that when flying hte c182. I feel like it may be unrealistic.

The rudders still work to turn should I be using the rudders solely when flying VFR or make use of the axis assignment (for realism only).

Cheers!

Nothing has changed, you should still be using the same as normal. As you note the new axis is for the big birds or those equipped with such.

thanks,

I think it's always been there (but I could be wrong)!! I've had the twist grip on my Saitek X-52 stick mapped to the nosewheel for a fair while - with my Pro Rudders doing the rudders. There again, maybe I'm confusing things with the Aerosoft Airbuses and the MJC Dash - both of which allowed you to (independently) set up tiller control ... with the help of FSUIPC.

This was first added some while back for v4. FSUIPC had similar option, which some addons have used to simulate steering tiller, while I think at least some used their own axis management.

Indeed, no separate nose wheel steering control in most light airplanes, 182 included. Some, such as 182, use rudder pedals to steer the nose gear, while many others simply use differential brakes for turning on ground.

Thank you, all appreciated.

Will use the rudder pedal axis only.

I must use the opportunity to say, though, that I appreciate this axis addition into the simulator, because until recently most (but not quite all) even highest-end addons got the rudder-NWS simulation all wrong. In fact, even Twin Otter should have a separate tiller controlling the nose wheel steering independently from the rudder.

Apparently, the Aerostar uses a rocker switch for the nose wheel steering. That will be interesting. :)
