P3D Hotfix Newb

Post by Buffalo Alien »

I have a question for people that have experience updating P3D. I have P3D v4.5.13.32097 that is running great with ORBX Global/OpenLC/Vector/Regions/Airports, etc. installed, REX Texture Direct, HIFI Active Sky/ASCA, Flight1 GTN 750/650, GNS 530/430, A2A planes & MILVIZ, etc. From what I'm reading here https://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopi ... 2&t=120861 updating seems to be a process of basically starting from scratch again with addons breaking? Do any of you that have been using P3D hold off (if it aint broke don't fix it) on applying a hotfix like what was released 4/15 or do you recommend just doing it? I am curious, this is the first "hotfix" released since owning any version of P3D.

What hotfix are you referring to?

Generally all you have to do is uninstall the client and install the new one. It should not break anything in the sim and you should not have to reinstall any addons.

P3Dv4.5 (4.5.14.34698) Hotfix 3 was released yesterday. https://www.prepar3d.com/news/announcem ... 04/116273/

This quote jumped out at me on the site "Please be aware that some third party developers might have to update their add-ons to be compatible with this hotfix. Please contact the third party developers directly for any compatibility questions."

Oh I see what you are talking about now. I'm probably going to wait a couple weeks to do it just to make sure there are no issues with add-ons. Only have to uninstall and reinstall the client. I've done it several times in the past with no issues.

Thanks for clarifying about the client, I was not sure on that. Also it does seem wise to wait a bit.

I did the Client and Content update this time. Third party updates are usually pretty quick in coming out. Active Sky already has one available. FSUIPC seems fine but most importantly, my A2A Spitfire seems just as awesome.

Great news about the Spitfire. My A2A hangar and Accu-Feel are the most important part of my sim. Flight1 GTN/GNS updated to v1.18 supporting the P3D hotfix.

Hey Steve, I just saw yesterday that FSUIPC has been upgraded as well to version 6 and that V6 works with P3DV4.5 as well... Pete Dowson's son has taken over from his father. My guess is that version 6 is for compatibility with P3D V5, though I am not 100% certain how true that is...
An upgrade for former owners is around €10...

Thanks for the heads-up Andrew. I upgraded to v6 yesterday for £11. Reading the forums it seems v5 will be discontinued by the end of the year with v6 taking over. I'll probably get P3D v5 when my A2A fleet is verified for it.

Thanks.

Steve.

I do hope Pete's OK - and that the handover wasn't because of anything sinister. I heard v6 is definitely compatible with P3Dv5.

Bad news about the upgrade not being free ... but hey - it's a superb piece of work.

The shift from V5 to V6 of FSUIPC is a version change, and they were never free... I assume there is always a degree of work associated with the large number changes, so it is justifiably at a cost. I am happy that the upgrade fee is discounted. Not always the case, as a number of people currently are noticing (P3DV4-5)

Hey guys. V6 FSUIPC is free. It's just the registered version that costs to upgrade. I used the free version for years before finally registering with v4.

The registered version allows you to do so much more... I have had a registered version longer than I can remember...

I'm being blunt now:

when you only have a joystick and a throttle maybe, or even additional rudder pedals and you're happy with the axes and the feel you get (which is most likely the case with such a hardware setup) then registered FSUIPC will give you nothing. HQ addons like A2A, PMDG, FSL etc provide a variety of functions and are coded so well and realistically that the additional functions that come with FSUIPC are pointless. If you want to map hardware switches to the airplanes like eg using the Honeycomb Alpha Yoke LINDA is the way to go, it's free and requires the UNregistered version of FSUIPC. Nothing else needed.

If you however use different controllers for different aircraft (stick for the AT6 or P51 or Airbus, Yoke for the Cessnas, Pipers, Boeings, maybe Yoke and Joystick in combination as flight or tiller controls...) then the registered version is the way to go. setting up profiles is easy and comprehensive, once you found your way and it changes automatically, so no need to fight with the still a little buggy and quirky P3D control assignments. Also mouse macros are easy to set up and save if needed.

However for all standard operations nowadays using A2A etc addons FSUIPC is really and totally obsolete.

I have a number of different aircraft, like many others. I have a Warthog HOTAS, two trim wheels by Saitek, MFG Crosswind pedals, and a VirtualFly TQ6+, a total of 18 axes and no idea how many buttons that are configured differently, depending on the aircraft for which they are assigned. I find the FSUIPC profiling system the easiest way to go for me. It would be great if, like X-Plane, this profiling system came with the base setup...
