Historical Weather search tool for specific conditions?

Post by Stearmandriver »

All,

Hoping someone knows of such a tool. Let me explain: there are plenty of tools available to enter a specific airport and time/date, and retrieve the historic METARs/TAFs for that time/date.

What I'm wondering is, is there a tool where I can enter an airport, and the weather parameters I'm looking for, and have it tell me WHEN those conditions existed? So I could then plug that date/time range into Active Sky's historical weather feature.

Thanks!

I use Active Sky as well, and as I understand it, the historical weather finds what you're looking for and plugs that into the sim automatically.

I think this will get you what you want, but it it is a three step process.
1) Extract the data you need
2) Load the raw data into a spreadsheet
2) Search for the conditions you desire in the spreadsheet

Helps if I add the link:

Thanks, I found a similar historical metar lookup tool and just did a text search for conditions close to what I wanted, like "4sm" (I was looking for MVFR). Worked well. An automated tool for this seems like it would be cool, but on further examination I guess it would be more work to build than it's worth.

Hello,

you could try OGIMET.
The site looks a bit odd, but you could find historic weather very easy.
All you have to do then is to start your sim at the time you found with OGIMET and set Active Sky to historic weather (sim time).

If you go to OGIMET directly, the map could be found under
