PC For Sale

Post by WB_FlashOver »

Hello all,
I have built a new system for my flight simming and my old PC needs to go to a good home. I built the system June of 2015 and it has served me very well the whole time. It is still more than capable to run P3Dv4.x at higher settings.

System Specs:
Cooler Master HAF-X Full Tower case
Asus X99-A motherboard
Intel Core i7 5930K CPU
G.Skill 3000MHz 15-15-15-35 16GB (4x4GB) memory
EVGA GTX 980 Ti SC (06G-P4-4995-KR 6GB) GPU
Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB SSD
Seagate 160GB HDD
Asus DVD RW drive
Enermax Liqtech 240 AIO CPU Cooler
650W Power Supply

The system runs at 4.5 GHz but can be increased to 4.625 GHz with proper cooling such as the custom cooling loop I was running.
Image

The memory can also be run at 14-14-14-34 if you choose.
Image

This case is large. You will need a good amount of space. There are filters installed on all intake fans.
Image

Image

The two slide out Hot Swap bays for SATA drives.
Image

Back of case. Note that there are two custom holes drilled with grommets where my external radiator hoses passed through.
Image

Side panel has plexi-glass that is very clear still for being over 2 years old. No deep scratches and some polish would clean it up nicely. Door has a 200mm fan that feeds directly onto the GPU and motherboard.
Image

I spent a few hours cleaning the system up. The 240 AIO keeps the CPU below 85C under synthetic stress tests and is fairly quiet when under normal flight simming load.
Image

Everything I have to ship. The plain brown box is the spare parts box for the case which includes GPU support bracket, caster wheels for bottom, spare front drive bay cover, screws/stand-offs, etc.
Image

1) This is not the latest-greatest generation system but it performs very well even by today's standards. I have the system running and have stress tested it for several hours and it appears to be rock solid.
2) I installed (but DID NOT activate) Windows 10 Pro 64bit OS. It will be up to the purchaser to buy and activate the OS but you will most likely be able to use the key from your old system.
3) The Seagate 160GB HDD is one I had lying around so I thru it in. You will need to install a larger HDD. You will most likely have an HDD to swap in from old system.
4) I have all the boxes that the parts came new in except for the case box. System will be boxed properly and securely with empty "original" parts boxes shipped as a second parcel if purchaser wants those. The GPU will be properly secured or removed and shipped in it's original factory box in a separate parcel.
5) I have all the hardware and other trinkets that came with the case and other items and will ship those with system.

Originally I planned on parting the system out and selling the parts on eBay. I have been watching eBay to see what the general price is that people are getting for them and I am seeing about $800(+/-) worth of parts. I would prefer NOT to go this route and would rather save the hassle of selling and shipping each individual part and just sell a working/running system to a fellow flight simmer that is in need of an upgrade.

I am asking $750 USD for this system "AS IS".
Shipping will be at the cost of purchaser with shipping agent being the purchasers preferred method, i.e. FedX, USPS, UPS, etc. I will speculate that the shipping cost will be over $125 USD.

Please reply to this post with questions or PM me with offers.

I will leave this up for a couple of weeks and if not sold I will move on to other options.
Thanks for your interest and have a good week.

Cheers
Roger

What kind of software were you running? (Orbx, Rex, etc) and what kind of frames were you able to achieve in dense areas such as Seattle, lax, etc?

Hello Firemedic17 and thanks for your service. I spent 18 years in the volunteer service.

So my settings first.

Traffic:
Airline Density=15-20%
General Aviation=15-20%
Airport Density=Low
Vehicles-Ships-Boats=15%

Display:
FXAA=Off
AA=4xSSAA
Anisotropic=16x
Texture Res=Ultra
Resolution=2560x1440
Frame Rate=Unlimited
Mipmap VC=On

World:
LOD Radius=Max
Tesselation=High
Mesh Res=2m
Texture Res=7cm
High Res Terrain=On
Complexity=Very Dense
Distance=High
Density=Dense
Density=Dense
Water=Ultra
Reflections=All but SimObjects
Special Effects=Both High

Lighting:
HDR=Enabled
Reflections=low
Dynamic Lighting-Lights illuminate ground-Lens flare=all on
Shadow Quality & distance=Ultra
Cast & Receive=Most on

Weather:
Draw Distance=110mi
Density=Maximum
Detailed-Fog-Precip-Windshield=All on

To be honest I am a little disappointed that my new system (specs in signature) does not do a whole lot better than my old system. Sure I hit 140 FPS at times but near large cities I still drop to high 20's. I really expected a big jump in performance. Maybe I just like too much eye candy. I generally fly long distance trips in the Connie at FL200 to FL230 and I run the above settings in P3Dv4.x. The Connie has been the hardest on resources in my experience with the P51 and Comanche doing much better. Typical FPS ran around 40 dropping into the low 20's near New York, San Francisco, DC, etc. I found that my monitor setup is not the best for performance too. I run a 2K 144Hz main display with a 1080P 60Hz secondary for the 2D panels. If I remove the secondary monitor the sim runs much smoother.

I run all Orbx Global sceneries, all NA regional sceneries & some custom airports. I also run ASP4 and ASCA. I use FSUIPC and LINDA for controls and that is it. No other add-ons except A2A.

I did run the 5930K in single threaded operation which cut out the micro-stutters. I haven't tried that with the 9900K yet.

Hope this helps Sir.

Roger

Thanks for the reply! I’m only a few hours from you just getting back into the sim world been looking for a computer but not very technical and of course when you spec out the “best of the best” you’re looking at a hefty price tag. I plan on running mainly ga aircraft around the Oregon California area with orbx of course

Just before my new build I was in Southern Cal with my Comanche and I was running (if memory serves) around 22-25 in San Francisco, San Diego, with LAX on the low side of that. This is with Orbx Northern and Southern California. I think I had cranes, power lines and all that turned on in the Orbx Control panel for Northern and Southern Cal as well.

I forgot one other add-on that I have and that is FreeMeshX. I have not seen it effect performance though. Dropping shadows down and a few other sliders makes it run smoother but I like all the sweet things in life :lol:

Cheers

If one is not too interested in having AI aircraft competing for the active you can turn them off and greatly improve performance. I would guess this would bring the FPS up to over 30 in the larger cities. Un-checking the reflection boxes will greatly improve performance as well. With my current build I get 45+ FPS by turning these items off where I get high 20's with them on.

Re: PC For Sale

Just a bump for this PC sale.

I want to clarify my FPS posted above. I know that mid 20's seems pretty poor. And it is if that is all the system could do. When I fly more locally, i.e. lots of short low altitude hops, I sometimes turn down the settings. I typically adust graphics at altitude (FL200) by increasing eye candy until I can run near 35FPS. This brings my FPS down to mid 20's for the final 5 minutes of the flight if landing at larger airports. I don't mind this as a very low percentage of my time flying is during takeoff and landing. The rest of the time I have lot's to look at with smooth flight.

One of the things that I really REALLY dislike is "jaggies". I run at least 4xSSAA to reduce as much of them as I can. SSAA is a real resource hog. It's a sacrifice I am willing to take though to reduce jagged edges, stair stepped antenna wires, broken runway painted lines, etc.

I am now running the latest-greatest i9 9900K 8 core/16 thread CPU @ 5200MHz on all cores and the performance is not that much improved over the old system. The i7 5930K 6 core/12 thread CPU @ 4625MHz on all cores did very well. It really is all about the simulator settings & system setup.

My point is, please don't get confused by the low twenties FPS listed.

Cheers all and have a great day
Roger

Hello fellow simmers,

I have reduced the price on this. Knowing that shipping may be an issue I'm dropping the price to $650. I'd really like to get this moved on to a good home.

Cheers and have a good weekend all.

Shame really as that would be a great price in the UK.

But I know from the last lot of things I shipped over that Customs would be the ruination of any savings. My personal items were almost all destroyed by the packing and unpacking when they 'inspected' them and they still charged me a fortune for duty. Only my books survived. (Oh, and my old school jacket!)

I dread to think what they would do to a gaming computer!

Hope you can shift it in the USA.

Thanks for the bump Lewis. Yes, it really is a good system. Sure, if someone has the money they could build a better machine but for this price you'd be hard pressed to come even close to the performance.

Bruce, I priced sending the video card to my friend in Chipping Norton and it was crazy what I found.

Looks like a great setup, would definitely bring someone some flight simming joy.
Unfortunately entrusting it’s well-being with any of the national couriers would make me nervous!
Best of luck finding it a new home.

Cheers.

Roger, is your PC still for sale? I know of someone wanting to get in flight simulators and I think your system would be great for someone getting started. Hoping I can find you a buyer.
